Sleeping during a heatwave is difficult. Now, imagine sleeping in a car during a heatwave and you will start imagining how I felt sleeping in the Campperman during my six nights.
Being the UK Campuvan, it is designed to keep as much heat as possible to help sleepers with typical cold nights in England. Therefore, when an unprecedented wave of 30 ° C (86 ° F) hit the worthy farm festival site, it became a tin tin can.
However, the editor’s facility for Tom’s guide in the form of sleep, I had some tricks on my sleeve to help me and my husband gets cool and good sleep (it can be as good as on a festival) night after night.
Establish our Glastonbury Festival
While I have previously camped into a tent in Glastonbury and enjoyed it, I was incredibly grateful to get an opportunity to borrow my mother -in -law’s van for this year’s festival.
There is a small double bed inside the van, not quite long for sleeping directly. This means that you have to sleep on your side. Apart from the driver’s seat at the front, there are no windows, so airflow can be difficult.
Keeping the forecast in mind, we seem to have been for a warm one, before we were stocking on some top sleep gears to help us come through the upcoming six nights.
How do I defeat the heat and sleep at the Glestonebury Festival
A touch of luxury added with bamboo bed and pajamas
When I attended the festival last time I was guessing chili nights, I still brought bamboo beds and pajamas with me as they can keep you hot as well as cool.
And I am glad I did. Being a natural material, it is breathable which means that it implicates heat like some synthetic material. It is also moisture, so it can help remove sweat from your body, keep you fresh.
As you can imagine, it was a deity in a festival when rainfall is limited. Bamboo feels a silky soft feeling which means that you can still feel comfortable and comfortable at night without overheating.
I opted for a beautiful London Pajama set, and every night I was eager to slip into them, enjoying my little luxury that helped me get through the rest of the festival.
Keep comfortable with a cooling dowt
My one tip for someone on a festival is that if you can bring a davate or comforter. Being capable of coddle with a real duvate instead of a slippery sleeping bag is worth taking into my opinion.
And you may think it seems very hot, but my husband and I decided to take our silent night airmax devet. This is a double layered comforter with Aries panels that allow the air to flow through it.
Therefore, while most of the night I did not need any kind of cover, I could still feel comfortable without sweat.
Relaxed with a cooling mattress topper
Okay, I know that I feel that I was ‘shining’ at this point, but I am a sleep features editor.
My husband and I slept in the first van for one or two nights and as side sleepers, we both woke up with a dead hip at night because the bed was so firm.
Therefore, before Glastonbury, we ordered the Eleemuse dual layer a three -inch memory foam mattress topper.
The best mattress toppers add some cushions to your bed without compromising support, and exactly what Elemus did for us.
While the memory foam usually implicates the heat, the allemuse mattress topper uses a gel foam that allows to spread heat and move away from the body. In fact, Alemus claims that the topper reduces sweating up to 50%.
It certainly did not feel that it was stuck with the heat, and because we were more comfortable, we were jumping and turning all night, doing a sweat. Result? Surprisingly feeling well relaxed in the morning.
Van-Pirten closed during the day
When we were at the festival, we did not return to the van during the day, so we had no reason to keep the curtain open. But this also meant that we could not have a door or window for airflow.
Therefore, our best stake was to keep the van as dark as possible and to prevent the creation of heat throughout the day.
Although it is not necessary that it is kept ‘cool’, it certainly works to avoid rising temperature.
By the time we returned to the van till late night, the temperature had come down slightly and when we opened the door, we did not welcome with a wave of hot air.
My other top suggestions to sleep on festivals
Even without a heatwave, sleeping on a festival may seem almost impossible. Here are some of my top tips that are to get quality comfort, whether you are anywhere.
Get blackout sleep mask
I have never used sleep masks before, just because I love to wake up till the natural day’s light. However, when the sun is getting up at 4 in the morning and I reached bed only a few hours ago, I thought it was best to delay that light as much as possible!
I used an olestik mulberry silk sleep mask that fits all the way around the head and is slightly padded to avoid any pressure around your eyes.
Even if it closed at night and I woke up very quickly, it was never away and as soon as I kept it back, I managed to get a few hours of precious sleep.
Invest in the right earplug
I am a fond Chawla festival and sleep next to a snoring husband, so as you can imagine, earplugs are necessary.
After using foam earplugs for years, despite hurting and damaging their ears, I wanted to use a soft, low disposable option.
I tried the loop calm 2 earplog, which were better than foam, but they did not block enough sound to help me avoid glastonabury.
This time, I tried and impressed the Alpine Silence Yearplug. They stayed in my ears till morning and they blocked so much voice that I was unaware of the chaos that was coming around our camps every night.
Now, alpine options cannot work for you and can be loops, it is worth trying some options so that you can find the right pair for yourself.
sleep in
I never lie and usually I never advise anyone that a consistent sleep schedule is important for quality comfort. Even during the weekend, no matter how long I went to bed, I will wake up between 7 and 8 am.
But this Glestonbury, I forced to sleep for as long as in the morning.
For me, I worry that I am missing on the festival if I am lying – but in reality, nothing happens before 12 noon. Therefore, instead of waking up early and waiting for your peers get up, it is best to get some more closed eyes.
So, leave the alarm and practice some cool breathing exercises to help sleep in the morning.
