The Cavman Cooling Method is creating an online stir during recent heatwaves.
The viral trend recommends closing windows and curtains during the day to keep warm air warm. It is often used to create a cooler atmosphere for sleep similar to the darkness of a cave in the bedroom.
Quite clear, isn’t it? The method of caves is a sleep ‘hack’ is low and your grandparents are more advice.
But decades experience (and a fair some Tom guide comments) emphasize the method of caves, I will not use it in this summer. And no, it’s not just that the heat has gone on my head …
Why I will not use the method of caves
The Cavman method is a very intelligent (and as Tom’s guide readers have told the method “clear” to keep their room in the cooler).
And I am a very intelligent person, so I have surprised myself by turning my nose, it is not a-hac-ice-so-obutous sleep hack.
Complete disclosure: I have first tried the method of caves. Calling it ‘caves’ can have a modern viral trend, closing your windows and blinds is a popular way to cool your home for a long time.
Which brings me into my first problem: it did not feel my room too cold.
My room was now both dark and hot
My room is in the east of the house, so I get a magnificent doll of sunlight to awaken the morning.
This is usually a good thing – I get fresh when it is sunny to help me – but in a heatwave it means that my bedroom is happening from morning to morning. I leave my windows and curtains open at night so that cold air can be given, but the sun rises after the heat.
Even if I close my curtain, once my alarm is closed, it gets damaged. Instead of a cool cave I am dreaming, it leaves me in a warm, dark room. Which brings me to the next problem …
It sends me out of the sink to the circadian rhythm
All against good advice but as a need for space, I have to work in my bedroom.
To prevent the task of ruining my sleep, I have strict limitations. I take time out for breakfast every morning to define the beginning of the day and I go for a walk every evening to do separate work from rest.
And the last important element is that when I am working, I keep my room bright, when I am sleeping, I do black pitches. I have a sad lamp and an eye mask to ensure that I can get it out of the terms.
But the method of caves immersed my field in ‘while sleeping’ in mode.
My sad lamp brightened things but within a few minutes it started pumping its heat. My slow overhead lamp is cooler, but low light made me feel sleepy.
And I was also pathetic. This is a full, dark room for you.
My circadian rhythm was everywhere, my evening walk was still confused with bright situations. I crawled on the bed with my head, which firmly stuck in ‘work’ mode.
I thrown into my only cooler room and turned with a racing mind. When I slept, I dreamed of mattress deals.
Should you use the method of caves?
The Cavman method is undoubtedly an effective way to cool your home, as is clear from the fact that people are using it for EON.
However, when the cooling may take the highest priority when trying to sleep in a heatwave, our circadian rhythm has its own demands.
For me, this means that a clear separation between my field and my sleep space, even if they are in the same room. This was something that was worked against the method of caves.
So for cooler sleep, I am leaving the stone age to pursue some millenniums and bend on the Olde Electric Fan method.
I am using 3 ways for cooler sleep
1. Make your own air con
A few years ago I bought a mini fan and it has become one of my prized wealth since then. Despite a small size it packs a cold punch during hot weather, especially when combined with a frozen bottle of water.
To make your own air con, you just need a fan and some snow. Just face the fan towards your bed, place a bowl of ice (or a bottle of frozen water) in front of the fan and turn it on. The fan will blow the cold towards you.
2. A hot bath before bed
In the morning vs. evening splashes, I fall on the edge of ‘whatever is convenient’, but a hot bath during summer can help me cool before the bed.
Moving from the heat of the shower in a cooler bedroom, my main temperature falls, bringing me closer to the right temperature to sleep.
It also washes sweat, sun screen and allergies that threaten to ruin my mattress and my sleep when I go to bed without an evening shower in summer.
3. Dig duvet and use a top sheet
While I swap my winter bed at some point in mid-sasant for light, airer option, even during a heatwave, even my most breathable dowt is very high.
I will close my cover completely except that I also like the weight of a thin blanket. So in summer, I will switch my duvet to a top sheet. It is very hot but not hot.
