ZDNET’s takeaways
- The new feature of Perplexity allows you to make a restaurant reservation directly through Opentable.
- This feature uses the system of the opening, so you do not have to rely on AI to do it for yourself.
- Instead of navigating between apps or tabs to find a restaurant and then book a table, the perplexity handles everything.
Finding the right restaurants and reservation is simply very easy, which is very easy for a new feature.
Chatbot (who likes ZDNET’s Steven von-Nicols on every other chatbot) New partnership with Opentable This week which lets you reserve the table of a restaurant directly from perplexity.

This means that you can hit AI for ideas and make sure you have a table without switching between apps or tabs.
To try the new reservation mode, I presented perplexity with a simple query: I have the best date night restaurants. But to go to a step beyond a simple Google search, I asked AI to find a date night spot located in historical buildings.
As a little food, I did not expect to see anything unfamiliar on the list, but I was surprised by the reaction of perplexity. AI cured a list of five local restaurants, two of which I had never heard before. Beyond the listing places only, however, Perplexity also gave details about the history behind each building.
I decided to give a shot to one of the new people.
A restaurant with a restaurant booking
Perplexity’s restaurant reservation facility is not like agent mode of chatgpt, which switchs between two services; It actually uses the reservation forum. Reservation works exactly the same as I went directly to Opentable.
After choosing a restaurant, I chose a date, time and party size. The next screen asked my contact information and for a special request, as if I was celebrating birthday or anniversary. Once this happened, I had a table. I found a link to manage reservation and email confirmation from Opentable. I had no reason to doubt the things that work properly, but I was able to use my reservation directly through Opentable.
While I could complete the same thing accurately without using perplexity, the process was so smooth that I would definitely use it again – to find both restaurants and book a table.

Earlier, I usually use Google to find a restaurant and then go to another site to make reservation. I can ask an AI chatbot for help, but I am usually one to read through the first reviews. Perplexity’s partnership removes that middle step and makes the process very easy. In fact, after trying it for some time, it is probably my new source to try to decide on a restaurant.
