When did you start your side, and where did you get inspiration for it?
In 2015, I started posting skin tips and education on Instagram through my nurse practitioner lens. First of all, I was not trying to make a brand: I just wanted to share skincare education in a way, which felt easy and easy to understand and develop the base of my patient. I came to know that my patients were overwhelmed by all noise in the skincare industry, and I wanted to simplify things for them. This spark, combined jointly, turned into barefoot, with a solution of its challenges, which I officially launched in 2020.

What were some of the first steps you take to remove your side from the ground? How much money/investment was made in launching?
The first steps were at a very grassroots level: educating on Instagram, connecting with my patients and people through DMS and sharing the routine working. I had no commercial background and did not know anything about raising money, so Naturally I removed five 0% interest credit card and sent an online pre-order to my Instagram community to fund the first production order. Initially, my idea was only to sell the products to patients in my office, but the word-off-mouth spread quickly, and the pre-order sold thousands of units, so I knew that I was on something.

    Connected: I changed a side hustle in $ 20,000 in a month-working part-time without a college degree

Are there any free or paid resources that have been particularly helpful for you in starting and running this business?
The community reaction has been my most valuable resource. Hearing that my patients and people were confused or struggling around their skin. On the practical side, when I could not take the risk of hiring anyone at work, I bent on google and upwork and always saw people to join that I was more knowledgeable in DTC space. I can’t imagine how easy it would be with chat now. Over the last four years, we have been very deliberate about shaping the brand story and overall customer experience. Our community has always been at the center of what we do, and we constantly look for ways to give them better service and make an extraordinary journey every time they interact with us.

If you can go back to your professional journey and change a process, what will this happen, and how do you want you to do it differently?
If I could go back, I would first build our c-suit. In the beginning, every fare was a do-a-all person, who worked for some time, but it also meant that we had efficient structure and lack of management. Two years ago, business could bear the senior leadership, and soon the guidance could save time, energy and increasing pain. This year, we finally created our C-suits, and it has been transformational to lead experts from different perspectives. If I could do it differently, I would have made that step first to strengthen my processes and overall structure.

Connected: I was a 25 -year -old nurse when I started a side hustle to combat concern. It earned $ 1 million in 7 months-then was sold for life-changing amount.

When it comes to this specific business, you should be particularly challenging and/or surprising that people who come in this type of work should be prepared, but not the possibility?
After entering the beauty industry, I faced one of the most amazing challenges, realizing how much brands were constantly rely on newness. Many release products after the product to make publicity and energy, and I quickly understood why: it runs speed. In bare times, however, our philosophy is “less but better.” We promise to give best-in-in-out-run skincare without adding chaos or unnecessary steps, meaning that we launch the most products.

The challenge, and which I think are not ready for many founders, are looking for creative ways to cure experiences and create enthusiasm that do not depend on the drops of endless launch or limited-sanskars. It needs to think differently about longevity: How do you keep customers connected to your brand, supported and connected when you are not giving them something “new” every other month? This has inspired us to innovate not only in formulation, but also in education, story and customer experience.

Can you remember a specific example when something went very wrong, and how did you decide it?
We once produced 50,000 units of eye patch, and when I got the final production run, they did not meet our standards. They were about to be 0.4 millimeters thick, but they came in a millimeter, and the tins we selected for packaging started chipping after some uses. A half millimeter may not take much, but they are details that are different from great – and customers feel the difference. Technically, they were usable, and many brands could move forward, but they did not reflect bare wings or our “best-in-class” promise. I decided to scrap them, which meant a loss of $ 100,000 and a delay of six months in our launch. This was one of the most difficult calls I made, but more matters to protect our integrity and maintain the customer trust.

How long did you take to see continuous monthly revenue? How much did the side hustle earn?
I saw continuous revenue from the beginning, and I really believe that I was educating my community in both office and online, for five years, before it flourished bare. By the time the first product surfaced, there was already a strong, loyal customer base. Within the first three months, it was clear that it was not a side hustle; It was a real business. We completed our first year on eight figures in revenue, which confirmed the demand and gave me the confidence to keep construction.

What does development and revenue now look like?
Bareflace has continued to grow year after year and has developed in a nine-house brand with a full team, an loyal community and an in-house R&D team. Development is not only about revenue – it is also about the trust we have created as a reliable skincare resource.

Connected: College friends started a side hustle with $ 50. It is ‘so full’ – and on the track for $ 500,000.

What do you enjoy the most in running this business?
Seeing the change in confidence of the people. We have been so lucky that women are ready to share their personal stories with us because it is personal and weak how you feel in your skin. It is not on me that they open about this part of their life. We have received thousands of earlier and earlier in the years, but those who live with me are not just about the skin-they are about confidence.

One who comes to mind is a mother who always struggled with breakout and redness. She told us that she avoids pictures and often felt that her skin had placed her on the edge. She started using a bare colored routine in the months to her daughter’s wedding, and later sent us a message that this was the first time she did not think of her skin. Instead, she felt beautiful and confident, celebrating her daughter.

This is the effect that gives me fuel: not only to improve the skin, but also give women freedom to show it completely in their lives.

Connected: Hustle towards the couple exceeded $ 1,000 in a day – with the help of chat

What is your best piece of specific, actionable business advice?
My best advice is to start building a community on social media. Show your face, answer questions and share the dirty beach of your journey. People do not just buy products; They buy trust. The fastest way to create that belief is to show continuously, even if incompletely. Social media is an independent and powerful tool to develop a community, listen to what people really want and test ideas in real time. If you do this well, as long as you are ready to launch a product or service, you will already have a loyal customer base, and you may not even need to fund the outside.
