For most of this year of this year, we are hearing the gallows of Intel’s plans, so that its workforce can be reduced significantly. As of today we are starting to see what will be the real scope of Intel’s Downering, around 107 employees are ready to lose their jobs in California. This planned firing has been an ongoing story for Intel, which has already cut 5% of its workforce in 2024.
As commissionLast Wednesday, Intel gave the need to alert employees to their impending doom by the California Act. The affected employees are all connected to the Santa Clara headquarters, and are a part of Intel’s plans to reduce operational expenses from $ 500 million in this year, with the target of leaving another $ 1 billion in 2026.
An Intel spokesperson said, “As we announced earlier this year, we are taking steps to become a lean, fast and more skilled company. Removing organizational complexity and empowering our engineers will be able to better meet our customers’ needs and strengthen our execution.”
He also reiterated 20% figure which we have earlier heard of how many employees are planning to trim. This is when Intel claimed that the number was an exaggeration.
Thanks to the California activist adjustment and re -introduction of the Information Act, such a large trimming requires appropriate warning and transparency in a short time. The notice stated that the retrenchment will begin on July 15, and those people will either have a notice in the notice of 60 days, or will receive four weeks notice with benefits for nine -week salary and trouble. Hopefully it is enough to give these employees a proper chance to land on their feet.
The roles noted in this collective layoffs are a bit surprising. The previous Intel contains that it will cut the middle-men to focus on engineering talent, but the roles have a lot of engineering jobs.
The CRN offers a list of these jobs, including “22 physical design engineers, three physical design engineering manager, three system-on-chip logic design engineers, three product development engineers, four design-for-test design engineers, six cloud software architects, four cloud software engineering engineering manager and two cloud software development engineers.”
This is just less than 50% of the total number in engineering roles.
However, there were some fair managerial roles among the casualties including the AI system and Solutions Engineering Manager, Engineering Project Manager, Silicon Design Engineering Manager and a group of others. With the recent option of Intel to outsource marketing for a consultancy firm using AI, it is possible that there is also another channel of jobs to go to the cutting block.
All this is in line with the company’s new CEO, lip-bo tan’s plan, so that the targets of cutting the operations as much as possible can be met. Sadly, I think we are waiting and to see how Intel arrives close to that 20% quota.
