The iOS 26 update declared in WWDC 25 is not only about the new liquid glass redigation. Apple is using this opportunity to re -design some basic features in the phone and message app, something that the company has not done, forever.
Apple is clearly taking inspiration from Google’s Pixel phone, bringing the call screening features and a new multi-verse layout that adds your favorite, recent call, and sound mail to a page. This is the same story in messages where you will find some pixels and WhatsApp style features like custom background.

First, the phone is a new design for the app, and a new tab bar with a large search icon that can come in handy. The new phone screen pinchs your favorite at the top, and then you will see all your recent calls and VoiceMel in the same scene. According to Apple, however, it is going to be an alternative feature, so it should be possible to roll back on the old look, although we don’t at all know how it will work yet.
The next call is the screening, which is similar to one on the pixel phone chain of Google. When you get a call from an unknown number, your iPhone will pick up the call in the background, and hear what the collar is saying. If it is really useful, and not spam, your iPhone will ring, and you will see a transcription of what you are saying. If you want, you can choose to answer the call.

Finally, the hold assist is the feature, which can help protect you from the hours of hold music. This feature automatically detects music and activates a background mode for calls. Now you are free to leave the phone app, or even lock your phone. When an agent connects, your iPhone will call you, and will also tell you what the agent said when you were away.
Phone, message and live translation everywhere
The IMESSAGE chat is also going to come alive. Like WhatsApp and Telegram, now you will be able to set a custom background for any chat. There is also a new pole facility, something that is really popular on WhatsApp.

Live translate feature is also coming in messages, so you will be able to automatically translate audio messages and text on the fly.
Even apple bringing a spin on your call screening features for messages. The texts of unknown sectors will be sent to a dedicated new folder, and they will not be added to your main texts list until you accept them. However, this will not apply to things such as one time passwords, delivery updates and other important information.
