What was your day work or primary business when you started your side hustle?
I was the vice president in a private equity fund that focused on rapidly growing health businesses.
When did you start your side, and where did you get inspiration for it?
My co-founder, Steven made fun of me to eat Tostitos while walking in Miami. I did not know what a seed oil was at that time, but this conversation became snowball in a side project, which became a masa chips.

What were some of the first steps you take to remove your side from the ground? How much money/investment was made in launching?
Steven and I put around $ 250,000 of my own money. I avoided doing some work in finance, and Steven gave some money (mistakenly) time in the market on Florida Real Estate during Kovid. We have raised about 14 million dollars since then.
If you can go back to your professional journey and change a process or approach, what would it be, and how do you want you to do it in a different way?
We always know that happy customers do a strong business, but we did not appreciate how much “latent demand” is. We are mainly an online business, and we do not think email marketing did not make any meaning until we tried it. Subscription looked strange for chips, and now they are half of our business. If we knew what we know now, then the ancient crunch would be about five times big.
When it comes to this specific business, you should be particularly challenging and/or surprising that people who come in this type of work should be prepared, but not the possibility?
Most consumer packed goods business are actually just marketing companies. They rent a factory, slap their stickers on the bag and sell it for markup. Because we roast our chips in beef tong, we could not get a factory, so we built our own. It turns out, this is quite challenging. The other major dynamic is that you always need more money as much as you think. We have said that we are raising money in the last three years.

Can you miss a specific example when something went very wrong? How did you fix it?
Recently, we had the privilege of Vandi Crisps (our Aloo Chip Line). Due to our in-house construction, this meant that we had to go out of the stock for about three weeks. Although it does not seem like a big thing, it is very disappointing for customers to wait longer than expected (especially in Amazon age), and in the meantime, we cannot go to the market for new customers because we don’t have an inventory to sell them. We started working for a long time, found new fryers and now on track.
How long did you take to see continuous monthly revenue? How much did the side hustle earn?
We basically saw continuous monthly revenue from the first day. We were not beneficial, but we had a product that people loved, and it was sold very well from the beginning. We were around $ 30,000 per month in the early days.

What does development and revenue now look like?
We are very focused on development. Last year, we did revenue under only $ 10 million. Next year, we plan to approximately $ 250 million.
What does a specific day or week work look for you?
I work for about 50 hours per week these days. I have a call in a block from 11 am to 5 pm and am working through email at the rest of the time. When you are the owner of the business, your job is the biggest fire. Often, this money has been raising. A few days, it is signing celebrity deals. In other days, it is optimizing the landing page conversions, while trying to convince the next retailer to keep you on the shelf. Founders always wear a lot of hats.

What do you enjoy the most in running this business?
This is great to see your product culturally. When we started, it was a side project that most of my friends politely told me that it was a waste of time. Now, we have 100,000 people who eat our products every month, and we have a bestseling product among many major retailers, including eravon and sitarella.

What is your best piece of specific, actionable business advice?
Make something that people want, then put it in front of 100 million people as fast as you can. Don’t start, “I want to start a business.” Start, “It should be present” or “This problem can be solved.”
