We are only a few weeks away from a new Mario Cart, and to say that we are excited, there is a big understanding. The Booster Course Pass, which came in the waves starting in 2022, breathed life in the Mario Cart 8 Deluxe, but the base mechanics below are the same MK8 that we are playing on Wii U since May 2014.
Don’t think us wrong – we have loved every minute with the best selling game of the switch (and live: Home circuits, and we like the most tour), but later a decade Of this, we are definitely ready to wider our horizon and detect a new world – a Mario Cart world, even.
As we gather on the grid and start modifying our engines, let’s use this lulla to look at the rearview mirror before the storm and see how far Mario is in its cart since its first race in 1992.
In this ‘Countdown’ feature series, the NL Staff will be looking back at the series and follow the racing line, which we got from the Super Mario Cart from Mario Cart World 33 (!) During the years. We would discuss transportation brought by each entry, such as they developed as laps, the things we loved, the things we were happy to leave behind, and what the world of Mario Cart takes from everyone.
start your engines…

I am a child in the grand plan of Nintendo history, so I took a long time before playing the role of Super Mario Cart for the first time. I think it was also on Wii or perhaps the new 3DS virtual console that I got to see for the first time from where all this started. And it should be said… I was not all affected.
I think a lot of professionals of Super Mario Cart have come down to be first. I am sure if you had not already played later entries, it would have been a quality bit of two-players fun. Sprites are packed with SNES sweetness, the concept is very out, and the courses, while very dry from today’s standards, were a great workaround for the 16-bit boundaries of hardware.

Going back in 2025 is an interesting. This is the game that sets the template for the series I know and love, and it is packed with the kind of indifferent attraction which is only one Extreme-Sensitive drift button and flattened item box can be brought. But it lacks a sense of salineness and party vibes that I see in a Mario Cart.
If you do not boot it in a few years, it is worth a reply on the NSO, but I cannot say that I will return it … Any other entry in the series. – Jim Norman
- Standout track: Bausar Castle 3, Vanilla Lake 2, Rainbow Road
- Funny facts: Game manual Special classification names for each driver are: “Brothers.” For Mario and Luigi, “The Dragon and the Lady” for Yoshi and Peach, “The Shodown” for Boussar and DK Junior, and (My Personal Favorite) Copa and “The Small Gives” for Copa and Tod
- What does Mario Cart World take from this? Only in the entire concept carts of Mario and Company, a reputed place like plus items and rainbow road. A silly format will come in itself later, but it is the foundation.

Mario Cart 64 was my first, so it will always hold a special place on the podium. it was it Game, with Goldenye, which clarified the boon of four controlled ports embedded in front of your console. It is not to say that I spent a lot of time in playing four-players MK64-they were expensive!

In fact, most of my 64-bit carting were two-khiladi, and much more He Block Fort or skyscraper was spent in a fight, “and” B ‘to spin on a dime to kill together and snatch a cheek green-shell hit on my brother. Sometimes we used to make it three-khiladi, even though only two of us were playing because the PAL version would then run rapidly on the speed of NTSC-style.
I moved towards DK or Vario, but even at that time the character sprights felt ‘old’ in Didi Kong Racing compared to the elder polygon drivers/pilots. However, there were such leaps on the circuit flat, 16-bit loops. With many paths and environmental threats, as well as item–cancelial opponents, the SNES feels directly like a racer compared to the original carnival environment, innumerable threats and courageous shortcuts. The Mario Rasway Wall-Jump Shortcut in a row is one of my biggest gaming achievements performing three laps. Small fry in the plan of things, but I still give a treasure to that ghost data!
Special shouts for music, also, my synaptic routes burned forever. It took me a beet to feel that I was smiling so much Mario Cart World DirectBut then it clicked: Raceway theme Was playing. Heluva game. – Gavin Lane
- Standout track: Royal Raceway, Copa Topa Beach, Yoshi Valley, Tod’s Turnpike
- Funny facts: If all this is slightly more, you can kill ‘L’ to closure the music down or completely stop or close it completely in this one.
- What does Mario Cart World take from this? First four-players Mario Cart, 64 set a template to set a template for multiplayer mehem, with crazy tracks and cheap goods that shifted the chain directly away from racing

Mario Cart was super circuit My Introduction to the series, and when I know it is not particularly favorable these days, I still consider its simplicity completely. Di, it is slightly behind in my personal ranking in recent years, but still I can still appreciate the more streamlined approach compared to the MK64 and double dash; It is better older than Super Mario Cart.

I still remember that whenever my family was the route for a holiday destination, I was playing it behind the car (my original GBA was cleverly bending to catch the light); Even when I rose every GP and get the best rank, I will go back and play again through it. The control simply felt so slow, and although I probably enjoyed the superstar saga and a link to the past just more, the super circuit is one of my favorite GBA games in the words of the pure gameplay.
On returning to it in 2025, I believe that I had to spend time to control, which is probably not an issue that I will guess with another entry (in addition to the original). Flowing, especially, seems incredibly active. Certainly I flew directly into a wall directly. Or a lake. not ideal. – Ollie Reynolds
- Standout track: Sky Garden, Boo Lake, Sunset Wilds, Bovers Castle 3
- Funny facts: The super circuit was the first entry to the facility of Lightning Cup; The previous games were limited to mushrooms, flowers, stars and special cups.
- What does Mario Cart World take from this? You can argue that the super circuit brought very little in the series, but let’s be fair, this is the first handheld entry, right? There are many portable Mario Cart Games compared to this point!

And there is a checker flag. If you have NSO membership on the expansion pack tier (and SMK is available with a standard sub), the three sports are playable on the switch here, so if it has all become indifferent to you, then make the head out on the circuit for a lap or two and feel free to share your memories below.
In Part 2, we will look at the Double Dash, Mario Cart DS and Mario Cart Wii of the Gamecube – keep an eye on it next week.
And if you are willing to see where it ended in the race for all three Best Mario Cart, we have got a rank list covering that subject …
