Mathworks, a leading developer of mathematical computing and simulation software, has revealed that the recent ransomware attack is behind an ongoing service outage.
Natic, headquarters in Massachusetts, and established in 1984, Mathworks now has more than 6,500 employees in 34 offices worldwide. Mathworks Matlab develops numeric computing platforms and simulink simulation, which is used by over 100,000 organizations and more than 5 million customers.
“Mathors experienced a ransomware attack. We have informed the federal law enforcement of the case. The attack impressed our IT systems,” the company said. exposure In an event report published on its official status page.
“Some of our online applications used by customers became unavailable, and some internal systems used by employees were unavailable, starting on Sunday, 18 May.”
The ongoing outages still affect many of their online services, including the cloud center, file exchange, license center and mathworks stores, the company has brought some online since then.
For example, several days after signing issues to prevent users from reaching their accounts, Mathworks restored the multi-factor authentication (MFA) and account SSO (single sign on) on 21 May.
Despite this, since Friday, some customers have continued to experience issues to prevent new accounts, while others who have not signed since 11 October 2024 have not been able to log in at all.
Mathworks has not yet revealed additional information about the incident, including the name of the ransomware operation behind the attack and whether any customer was stolen during data breech.
Even though the company tagged the incident as a ransomware attack, no ransomware gang claimed violations, suggesting that Mathworks either paid or still negotiating the ransom demanded by the attackers.
A mathworks spokesperson was not immediately available for comment when contacted by bleepingcomputer.
