You have probably heard of vibe coding – a novice who wrote an app by creating an ordinary AI prompt – but now Microsoft wants to present a similar thing for his office app. Software manufacturer Is launching A new agent mode in Excel and Word that can generate complex spreadsheets and documents with only one signal. A new office agent in Copilot Chat, run by the anthropic model, is still launching today that can create a powerpoint presentation and word document from the “Vibe Working” chatbot.
Sumit Chauhan, corporate vice president of Microsoft’s Office Product Group, says, “Today we are working in Microsoft 365 Copilot to Vibe and Copilot with agent mode and office agent in office apps in Copilot Chat.” “Similarly vibe coding has changed software development, unlocking agentic productivity for the latest logic models artworks in Copilot.”
Agent in Excel and Word is a more powerful version of model Copilot experience that Microsoft has added to its office app. It is designed to make the complex parts of Excel more accessible to users that are not of experts. “This is not only a simple auxiliary short answer, but board-taiyar presentations or documents,” says Chauhan. “This is the task, quite clearly, that a first year advisor will distribute in minutes.”
Agent mode essentially takes a complex task and breaks it with plan and logic that you can follow. It then uses the GPT-5 model of Openai to break each stage of the document construction and execute it. It is like seeing an automatic macro in real time, showing what he is doing in the sidebar.
Microsoft has taken a gradual approach to add AI elements to Excel, especially because this data handles some of the most important parts of businesses worldwide. “(Agent mode) allows you to make sheets which are audible, fresh and verified,” Chauhan says. “We have spent a ton of time to ensure that the verification loop on all these sub-agents is very tight.”
Microsoft states that its agent in Excel has a 57.2 percent accuracy rate in mode spreadsheetbench, which is a benchmark to evaluate the AI model’s ability to edit the actual world spreadsheet. This result is agent mode above shortcut.AI, chat agent with .XLSX support, and cloud files above OPUS 4.1. It is still behind the human accuracy of 71.3 percent, though.
The agent mode in Word is beyond the current writing, rewrite and summarizing AI features in Word. Says Chauhan, “The agent mode in Word turns the document construction into vibe writing, an interactive, interactive experience,” Chauhan says. It gives the copilot draft material, suggests refinement, and clarifies what elements are required during the document construction process.
You can do things such as creating a monthly report with data of previous months and briefly submit the difference from highlights and previous reports for the Copilot month. “Copilot suggests to keep the process flowing, so the writing sounds like a dialogue compared to a task,” Chauhan says.
Microsoft’s new office agent will also be available outside its office app via Copilot Chat. Powered by anthropic model, it can create full powerpoint presentations or word documents from a chat prompt. “PowerPoint is one of the most commonly used devices to create presentations, but in the last two years AI has often reduced when creating slides,” Chauhan says. “The office agent changes.”
The office agent can create a fully structured powerpoint deck, doing all web-based research and providing live preview of the slide. Microsoft is hoping that it will help the office separate from the magnitude of the AI tool that are trying to create documents, spreadsheets and slide decks.
“Productivity is our DNA, we are offices,” Chauhan says. “While others will try to repeat us, there is no alternative to the real thing.”
The office agent also marks another entry point for Microsoft 365 apps and anthropic AI models in services. Microsoft recently embraced Openai rival to improve researchers, Github Copilot, and Copilot Studio, and is now capable of producing Word and PowerPoint Dachazes from his Copilot Chat interface of AI model Microsoft of Anthropic.
“We are committed to Openai, but we are starting to find out with the model family to understand that strength that bring different models and understand how we make the best composition for our products,” Chauhan says. “We are looking at the entire family of the model, wherever state -of -the -art work is done.”
While Openai model office continues to power the AI of Microsoft inside the apps, it seems that the models of the anthropic are close to being an important part of the office apps such as Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Microsoft is using anthropic API to bring these features into Copilot chat, which runs on Cloud rivals Amazon web services. This is the reason why we have not seen the AI model of Anthropic woven in the desktop office apps yet.
Both agent mode in Copilot for Excel and Word will be available in Microsoft 365 Copilot customers or Microsoft 365 individual / family customers in frontier programs. Agent model in Excel and Word is available only in web versions at the time of launch, in which desktop support is coming soon. Office agents are still available in Microsoft 365 Copilot customers or Microsoft 365 individual / family customers in the US in the US.
