Microsoft is investigating a known issue that triggers outlook errors on opening an encrypted email sent from other organizations.
According to the recently published support documents, this problem affects users in all office channels who are using classic outlook email clients.
“Currently, when using the Classic Outlook for Windows, you cannot open an Omev2 encrypted email if it was sent from a separate organization (which we call another tenant),” Microsoft said,
“If you try to open an encrypted email, you can see the following error message: ‘Configures your computer for Right to Information’.”
While the reason for the issue is still being researched, Redmund has shared a temporary work-chamber for the affected customers, for which they need to either enabe out cross-tentant access to external users to exclude conditional access requirements or to rely on MFA claims from other organizations.
As the company explained, the easiest solution is to enable cross-tenant access, as it allows the encrypted email sent to other external tenants to be opened without any error.

To do this, you have to undergo the following stages:
- Go to the “Inbound Access Settings – Default Settings” page of Microsoft Entra Admin Center. Then choose “Trust Settings” through this direct Add,
- Select the option for “Trust Multiformer authentication” from Microsoft Entra Tenants.
It is important to note that applying this work -round will only ensure that others can open an encrypted email sent from your tenant. To open an encrypted email sent to you from another tenant, the sent organization will also have to do the same workaround on its system.

Microsoft says that Outlook and Purview teams are investigating the bug and will provide more information as soon as possible.
In June, Redmond fixed another bug, crashed when the classic outlook email client started a new message or opening an email.
Two months later, it reduced an exchange online issue, causing email access problems on Outlook mobiles for customers using hybrid modern authentication (HMA).
