When I first heard that the Samsung S25 was bringing the name of the edge as a new super-thunder member of the family, I could think: Why? Honestly, I felt that phone manufacturers had reduced their appetite for thinness almost a decade ago. Battery life, excess heat and more limited features deteriorated in search of shaving millimeters from devices. So what does it give?

At a certain level, like fashion, older trends can be fresh and stylish over time. Additionally, 5G changes were followed after the phone – including additional power, more complex modem and large antennas – modern components have started shrinking again, essentially the way for the return of the slimmer handset. But then it hit me. While thinness can be the most striking thing about the Galaxy S25 edge, it is not enough to justify the construction of a new tool. Instead, I believe that this phone is a part of a large mission to make the child a more attractive member of the family amidst its major mobile lineup. And when seen in that light, I really feel that it is a great success.

While it is prone to a small battery and there is no telephoto lens, the S25 Edge is only more than a super sleek phone designed for purely excessive thinness.

Now don’t misunderstand me, despite my grip that thin phones are less practical, S25 Edge is beautifully designed. At just 5.8 mm thick (0.23 in), it sounds impossible. Can it be even more impressive that Samsung has not sacrificed durability to reach here. Like the S25 Ultra, the edge has an IP68 rating for a titanium frame, dust and water resistance and a strong gorilla glass ceramic 2 panel covering its performance. A difference is that the edge screen has a shiny finish like an ultra-like mat in the edge’s screen because-and I do not have a baby to you-Samsang says that an anti-reflective coating would have increased its thickness. Kudos is uninterrupted by the S25 age, because of a strict design philosophy, because of sheer experience and aesthetics.

On only 5.8 mm thick, Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is one of the thinnest smartphones ever. On only 5.8 mm thick, Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is one of the thinnest smartphones ever.

However, while the S25 Edge shares some characteristics with ultra, such as its frame and main camera, at least when it comes to its overall shape, it is actually more to take a refreshing on S25+. It has a 6.7-inch OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate that is alive and surprisingly colorful as before. Although it weighs a little less on 163 grams or 5.75 ounces vs. S25+ (190G or 6.7 OZ).

    Display

Like the rest of the S25 family, the edge is powered by a Snapdragon 8 elite for the Galaxy chip with the age 12GB RAM and is either 256GB or 512GB storage. Despite the compact dimensions, Samsung still found a room to squeeze a vapor room to prevent throttleing and overheating. So when pushed, the phone rarely gets more than lukewarm, while I give strong performance because I was gaming, multitasking or could do much and could do anything.

    Camera

Another major departure from the basic template of S25+is that the age is from Ultra to 200MP main sensor as well as 12MP ultra-wide cam. But there is no dedicated zoom. Now first, I was a little upset because I think any phone should have a telephoto lens in this expensive. That said, he can catch the primary sensor of the age in large quantities of pixels, which means that you have a lot of freedom to harvest without reducing image quality. You only have to remember to tell the camera to shoot in full 200MP mode instead of standard 12MP settings. Another small change is that the edge has a slightly wide-angle 12MP selfie cam compared to the S25+ and Ultra, which allows you to fit more people in group shots, but this is actually the main difference.

In general use, the S25 edge takes great photos. The colors are rich and the details are crisp, although you still get a little oversized huge and warm tones of Samsung. The same goes for low-light shots. For this review, instead of comparing it to a pixel or iPhone, I gained an edge against Motorola Razra Ultra. I think both are trying to woo people who want a smooth and stylish device, but they are doing it in very different ways.

In a shot of some roses, razr struggled with ultra focus and color saturation.

The one who jumped immediately is that the foldable phone (at least RAZR) still lags behind the more traditional glass bricks, even thinner as the edge. In almost every shot, Samsung’s handset produced brighter, sharp and better-intensive images than Motorola. So if you are the kind of person who wants a compact phone without the need to renounce image quality, the S25 edge is a strong pick.

    battery life

The biggest trade-off when making the phone is less space for your battery in this skinny. For example, the S25 Edge has the smallest power pack on 3,900 mAh in the family, which is less than 100mAh in a base S25. This gave just 25 hours and 59 minutes on our local video randdown test. It is not terrible, but it is three and a half hours less than what we got from S25 Ultra (29:27) and a standard S25 is bad than S25. For those who care about longevity a lot, you have been warned.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge has a 15-wireless charging and 25-wise wired charging. The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge has a 15-wireless charging and 25-wise wired charging.

    Sam Rutherford for Engaget

Thankfully, the S25 Edge still has support for wireless charging at an acceptable 15 watt, although its wired speed is just average at 25 watts. However, as the phone is only “QI2 ready,” whoever wants to use compatible magnetic wireless accessories will need to buy a case or an adhesive mount with an underlying magnet, because there is no one inside the phone.

    Wrap

S25 Edge is a divisive phone. I still do not fully understand the desire to make modern phones thin, because they are already. Especially if you are like most people and you throw the cheese in a case as soon as you get it (still when accounting for Samsung’s new super slim option). Shaving an additional 1.5 mm on standard S25 really does not really make a solid difference of how you use it, unless you consider the low battery life of the phone to be a good thing.

Like the S25 Ultra, the Samsung Galaxy S25 age has a titanium frame. Like the S25 Ultra, the Samsung Galaxy S25 age has a titanium frame.

    Sam Rutherford for Engaget

But as an alternative to the hoodum S25+, suddenly things become very interesting. The cost of Samsung’s previous middle child is much higher than a base S25, but it does not have fancy features such as super high-raise main camera or titanium frame as you receive on S25 Ultra. In fact, the most attractive feature of S25+is a well -shaped 6.7 inch screen.

Now it is here that the Galaxy S25 age comes in. It has a super thin and stunningly designed chassis with all those things as $ 1,100 initial value S25+. Yes, Samsung renounced some battery capacity and dedicated zoom of the phone to reach here, but they are not directly Delrekar. This is because with The Edge, the new member of Samsung’s new mobile family has more than just thin-it has a stylish identity that can stand on its own.
