Mosila has announced a new feature that enables Firefox Extension Developers to roll back into previously approved versions, allowing them to address significant bugs and issues quickly.
Once the latest extension version returns, users will no longer be able to install it. If automated updates are enabled, the web browser will automatically return the extension for users in the previous version within 24 hours, which have installed the buggy version.
“If developing a modified version and getting a review will not address the problem quickly, you can roll back in the first version of your extension. Users update the rolled back version when their browser checks the next check for the extension update, which is default within 24 hours,” Mosila says,
“To address this problem, you can roll back your extensions by pushing this version to users by reinstating the previous version with a new version number and pushing users through developer hub or ad-on submission API.”
The version rollbacks are now available for any extension with at least two approved versions, enabling the developers to roll back to the approved version issued before the current one for the versions distributed on addons.mozilla.org. However, if they are self-contributed, Firefox Extension Developers can return to any approved version.
To roll back to the already approved version through the developer hub, developers must use the “Rollback to a previous version” option, “Upload a new version” is located next to uploading “, On the position and version page.
In June, Mozilla introduced another security facility for its ad-on portal, which is to block malicious extensions that drain the cryptocurrency wallet of users.
Addons.mozilla.org (AMO) review and material security team chief Andreas Wagner said at the time that Mozila had discovered and removed hundreds of such extensions in the last few years, including many scam Crypto Wallets.
Since then, two malicious campaigns have flooded Mosila’s official firefox ad-on store in July and August, which contains about 200 extensions, which apply popular cryptocurrency wallets including coinbase, Metamsk, Trust Wallet, Phantom, Exodus, OKX, Caplr, and Mayamonro.
