My favorite AirTag wallet alternative is light, ultra-thin, and surprisingly inexpensive

    ZDNET Highlights

    • KeySmart’s smartcard is available on Amazon for $40 ($90 for a 3-pack).

apple airtags It has changed my life, saving me countless hours of searching for keys and other items that I may have inadvertently lost.

But AirTags have some design flaws. First of all, replaceable batteries mean that you are Handful of CR2032 removed every year. Then there is size and shape. These small UFO-shaped devices do not have a lanyard hole and are too heavy to carry in a wallet without giving you back pain.

Also: My search for the best USB-C charger for travel is finally over

Yes, some wallets have small holders for AirTags, but in my experience, they are all very bulky.

But there is a third-party product like AirTag that takes everything the original Apple AirTag offers and solves all of the above problems and more. that’s tag KeySmart SmartCard,

The first thing I like about the smartcard is its thickness, or more specifically, its thinness!

While Apple’s AirTag is 8 mm thick, the SmartCard is 2 mm or less than the thickness of two credit cards. This makes it perfect for use in wallet. There is a luggage tag hole at the end to attach the smartcard to your suitcase.

The SmartCard is much thinner than the AirTag.

KeySmart made this card so thin by removing the bulky CR2032 coin cell and replacing it with a rechargeable battery. This battery is recharged every five months using a wireless charger.

While testing this card, I thought it would be great if KeySmart built MagSafe technology into the card so it could be connected to my angled MagSafe iPhone charger. Well, KeySmart thought of everything – this card connects to a wireless MagSafe charger!

Plus: I never travel without this AirTags accessory — and it’s saved me hundreds of dollars

Because there’s no battery compartment cover, the Tag is sturdy, has an IPX7 rating for dustproofing and water resistance, and can survive being submerged in 3 feet of water for up to 30 minutes. Despite being thin, these items are tough and can withstand a great deal of bending and squeezing, making them suitable for carrying in a wallet.

Apart from these improvements, the device functions similarly to AirTags. It is activated using the Find My app, and you can locate your wallet when it is lost.

This is the AirTag that Apple should have created.

    ZDNET’s shopping advice

airtag Are great, but they have limitations of the first generation and I’m sure Apple will solve that one day with the next generation wave of AirTags. For now, KeySmart SmartCard This is the best AirTag for those who want a slim solution for their wallet or as a luggage tag.
