Baksua, friends-We have one to three months to one of the largest shake-ups for NBN in years.

Not only we are expecting the arrival of multi-gigabit NBN 2000 schemes, but the current crop of fastest NBN schemes is also prescribed for its own speed increase. Perhaps the most exciting of these belongs to the best NBN 100 schemes, which are ready to get 5x boosts for maximum 500Mbps download speed – provided you are on the right type of physical NBN connection.

While we have not yet officially confirmed what they will be called, we have chosen them to dub as “NBN 500 schemes” and, at least on paper, they can provide the best value in the entire NBN lineup.

Sound exciting? We cannot agree much. But what are the NBN 500 schemes really, can you sign up for one, and how much will their cost be? We have dug deeply in all the current information available to bring you the answer.

When will NBN 500 schemes be available?

Why can you rely on techradar

We review every product or service, we review, so you can make sure you are buying the best. Get more information about how we test.

The NBN CO has identified September 14, 2025, as all significant dates increase to increase its proposed speed. This is the day when NBN 100 schemes will be enabled from the side of NBN CO, and NBN 500 will also be available for retail service providers (RSPs) to buy at bulk levels.

Currently, NBN 100 schemes are officially referred to as ‘Home Fast’ schemes and will not change as far as we know.

As we have mentioned with NBN 2000 schemes, which are live on the same date, we cannot confidently say that those people on NBN 100 will be promoted immediate speed, or that you will be able to switch to the NBN 500 scheme at this time, as RSP will need to make a backndary adjustment before rolling to customers.

The official term of NBN CO states: “Customers who have already purchased (NBN 100, NBN 250 or NBN 1000 scheme), or upgrade at any time in future, will automatically take up new, faster when quick plans are provided by retailers.”

We will argue RSPS Needed Customers are able to quickly give increased speed to customers compared to rolling out new multi-gigabit plans, given the fact that it is only an upgrade for an existing product that should not require any change in NBN hardware for the end users. As often happens, we will be looking at this place and updating this article as soon as possible with new information as soon as it will be available.

    How fast will NBN500 plan?

As with all speed tier naming conferences, NBN 500 schemes will offer an theoretical maximum download speed of 500Mbps – they will replace five times more than the current maximum of NBN 100 schemes. The speed of upload will also increase from maximum maximum 20Mbps to 50Mbps.

With a speed of all fixed-line NBN more than 100Mbps, NBN 500 schemes will only be available to customers who connect to the network through fiber (FTTP) (FTTP) or Hybrid Fiber Coaxial (HFC) connection. If you currently connect the node (FTTN) or Fiber with the Fiber with the fiber, you will not have the technique to support fast speed.

If you are not sure what connections you have at home, you can use NBN CO address checkerIf you find that you connect through any inferior technologies (FTTN/C), you can be eligible for NBN Co’s Free Fiber upgrade program, which provides a full fiber FTTP installation at your address.

If your house is currently not in a qualified upgrade location, or you choose not to upgrade, after the introduction of new levels, you will still see NBN 100 as your fastest possible option and not NBN 500. If you can take advantage of the upgrade as soon as possible, you will come in the best position in September when the increased speed will become effective.

What will be the cost of NBN 500 schemes?

In addition to the increase in major speed, the best part of the proposed motion upgradation is that in theory, you should not spend extra every month.

We say ‘in theory’, because NBN CO has stated that additional speed benefits will be provided at no additional wholesale costs, RSP will still be free to price them because they see fit.

Before the rollout, however, the NBN 100 schemes have been placed for a wholesale price hike from July, and this will increase their retail costs in some dollars every month. The increase in these prices was published in a manner in 2023 in NBN CO’s special access undertaking (SAU), and therefore do not come in the form of total shocks.

We will certainly hope that prices will not proceed in September, but we have to wait and see how providers choose to handle the rollout.

Should I get NBN 500 scheme?

In some ways, this is a difficult question to answer. If you are already signed up on an NBN 100 scheme And You connect via FTTP or HFC, then in principle you will automatically go into an NBN 500 scheme without any additional cost.

However, a strong case is to be made for everyone – even those who are signed one of the best NBN 1000 schemes – once launched to switch to the NBN 500 scheme. This is because we believe that the faster speed (a combination of 500Mbps must be sufficiently served more than the majority of Australian homes) and NBN 100 schemes (usually the cost of less than AU $ 10 P/M is more than slow NBN 50 schemes) already makes a great price, for a powerful combination.

We will also say that we can become the most popular NBN scheme of all of them-currently a status organized by NBN 50 schemes, which make about two-thirds of the fixed-line NBN memberships at the time of writing.

If you are currently signing one of the best NBN 250 schemes, you will also get an increase in speed up to 750Mbps. If you feel that this may be a slight overcome, falling down for an NBN500 scheme will probably save you some money – depending on the provider you have chosen.

Can I get NBN scheme now?

Whether you are on a slow NBN 50 scheme or on a very high speed plan, but want to take advantage of the upcoming 500Mbps speed, we have chosen a couple of magnificent NBN 100 plan options for the best position when we change.
