NordVPN has announced that Post-Quantum Encryption (PQE) is now available on all its platforms.
From our tests, we rate Nordvpn as the best VPN, and it has oversee a shocking approach for its PQE security. Its implementation is possible for the Nordalinx Protocol.
Quantum computers are not far away from widely adopting. They will soon be able to crack current AES-256 encryption easily-an event known as Q-Day-so adopting PQE is necessary for VPN providers.
There is a debate on whether it is necessary to roll PQE now or before time. But regardless of that, PQE is required – and here is described how Nordvpn is handling it.
Post-quantum encryption for all apps
In September 2024, NordVPN saw the first launch PQE, rolled it on its Linux VPN app. The VPN provider set a target at the beginning of 2025 for all other platforms to obtain PQE.
PQE is now available for Windows, Mac, iOS and Android with security for TVOS and Android TV.
There are some limitations of PQE support of Nordvpn. It only works with the Nordlynx Protocol, so it will not be active when you use dedicated IP, Openvpn, Obfuscated Server or Nordavisper.
Enabling PQE will also stop the meshnet as facilities are not compatible.
How to enable pqe on Nordvpn apps
PQE is capable through a taggle switch. Go to “Settings” and then “Connection” on your NordVPN app and turn on PQE. Once done once, whenever you connect to the server through the Nordlynx protocol, the pQE will be automatically active.
The custom of Nordlynx Nordvpn is VPN protocol. It is based on wiregard, and is known for its speed and safety.
NordVPN has implemented PQE as per the standards set by the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). NIST has spent years in research and testing on PQE methods Three standards finalized In August 2024.
“As quantum computing advances, traditional encryption methods used by most VPN protocols will eventually become unsafe today,” said NordVPN’s CTO Marriage Bridis.
“By integrating PQE in our VPN infrastructure, we are taking an active step to ensure long -term privacy and flexibility for our customers’ data, both now and in the later future of quantum.”
Has other VPN providers adopted PQE?
ExpressVPN and Mulwad are only the other two mainstream provider providing PQE security across the board. ExpressVN integrated PQE in its lightway protocol in January 2025, while Mulwad launched its PQE strategy back in 2017.
Purevpn and windscribe also support PQE, but not for all applications. IPVanish PQE is planning a 2025 release for support and Surfshark said that it is “now actively implementing PQE”.
Proton VPN is taking a slow approach and does not want to hurry its implementation. Proton VPN General Manager, David Peterson stated that the provider “once wanted to release PQE support in the entire proton ecosystem and described PQE technologies as” a marathon, not a sprint “.
