Openai is planning to combine several products (features or models) in its next basic model, called GPT-5.
Chatgpt currently has very capable models for various tasks. While the models are powerful, it can be misleading because all models have similar names.
In a redit AMA thread, Jerry Tworec, who is a VP in Openai, suggested that there are plans to bring some current models and their abilities with the next basic model.
GPT-5 will also make the existing model much better in everything.
“GPT -5 is our next fundamental model that can do our model currently better and to make everything with low model switching,” Jerry Tworec, who is VP in Openai, wrote In a redit post.
This makes sense for Openai that it be reduced to the number of models made by it and some of them should be brought together under the multimodal GPT-5, which can also support the argument.
Currently, Openai is focusing on the creation of the best coding model called Codex, an AI agent that helps software engineers to achieve their functions.

The Codex-1 model is built on top of the O3 Reasoning Model, and Openai plans to ship further updates to convert it into the best coding model.
