Openai is starting a new way for developers to create an application inside Chatgpt. From Monday, users in Chatgpt will be able to use interactive applications from companies like Booking.com, Expedia, Spotify, Figma, Coursera, Zillow, and Canva. Openai is also launching the preview of developer-faceing toolkit, SDK, SDK to create these apps.
Openai announced its annual developer conference, Devday 2025.
CEO Sam Altman said, “We want chatgpt people to progress, more productive, more inventive, rapid learning, whatever they are trying to improve in their lives, is a great way to do.” “(App inside Chatgpt) will enable a new generation apps that are interactive, adaptive and individual, with which you can chat.”
The new system is the latest attempt of OpenEAI that creates an ecosystem of apps around its major AI product, chatgipt. The launch follows the previous efforts of OpenaiI to allow developers to create interactive applications, such as through its GPT store. Unlike the product, which was a separate app store, Monday’s launch applies apps in direct chat reactions, and allows users to call the third-party tool in their everyday conversations. This gives developers better distribution for apps made by them, and its purpose is to create a rich experience for users in Chatgpt.
By typing the names of various apps in the Chatgpt, users can draw in materials from various services. For example, the users may say that “figs, convert this sketch into a practical diagram”. Users can also call the Cinera app by asking, “Cinera, can you teach me something about machine learning?”
In a demo of zillow application, users can motivate Chatgpt in natural language to search for apartments in their area within a specific price range. Chatgpt then drawn an interactive map showing the option, and the users could talk with Chatgpt to learn more about each one.

When they can be helpful for a user, the chat will also keep the relevant apps on the surface. If someone asks for a playlist for a party at the end of this week, the Chatgpt may call the Spotify app in the conversation. In the future, Openai says that apps such as Doordash, InstaCart, Uber, and Alltrails will also be available in Chatgpt.

Openai states that the new system is created using model reference protocol (MCP), which allows developers to connect their data sources to the AI system. The CHATGPT apps can also trigger verbs, and can present a fully interactive UI in chatbot’s reactions. Some apps are capable of displaying videos in Chatgpt, which will be pinned to the top of the web-page and can be replaced by user requests.
If users are already given membership of a product, they will be able to login to their account directly in Chatgpt to reach some characteristics. Altman also states that Openai would support ways to mud the apps inside the Chatgpt in the future, including the company’s recently launched instant checkout features in the Chatgpt.
The Chatgpt will have an important question of the apps around the apps, and how much data the third party developers will have. Openai says that developers “only require minimum data, and should be transparent about permissions.” However, it is not clear that the developers will have access to the user’s complete interaction with the past, the past, or simply the sign that calls the app.
It is also not clear how the Chatgpt will choose a service between competitive companies, such as Dordash and Instacart. One can imagine how companies may be revealed in chat reactions, but Openai says that this user is planning to prioritize the experience above all.
