Openai’s Codex is already making waves in the vibe coding vertical, and now it is ready to be even better.
For those unknown people, Codex runs in the terminal, IDE and web to help you with coding.
Codex coding goes beyond the specific elite for assistance. Instead, it can help you code a full app or website.
Openai is now testing some new features for Codex, which can be declared in the company’s devday 2025 next week.
Prior to the announcement, Openai has quietly added a new “Codex Alpha” opt-in.

As you can see in the screenshot above, Codex Alpha allows you to choose in a new program that gives you early access to features.
“Get quick access to new Codex models and features,” reads the feature details.
I updated Codex from Windows Terminal, but I could not get access to any new model.

Right now, Codex is only accessing the following models:
- GPT-5-CODEX low
- GPT -5 -Codex medium
- GPT -5 -Codex High
- GPT-5 minimum: fastest reactions with limited arguments; Ideal for coding, instructions or mild tasks
- GPT-5 low: Alances speed with some arguments; Useful for direct questions and short explanations
- GPT-5 medium: default setting; The argument provides a solid balance of depth and delay for general-purpose functions
- GPT-5 maximizes depth of depth to high complex or vague problems
We will probably learn more about Codex Alpha in the devday of Openai, which is scheduled for October 6, 2025.
