The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Matty) on Friday published a set of DOS and Dons for users in a post on X (East Twitter) after Operation Sindore. The latest advisory of the ministry wants to inform citizens about the risks of misinformation and urge them to stay safe online, following cyber security precautions. The government’s fact-checking unit is posing clearly explanation for posts and images online after Operation Sindoor, and users have been urged to report misinformation via WhatsApp and email.
Meity urges users to follow cyber security precautions
In a post on X, the IT Ministry urged users to be vigilant online. The IT Ministry said in the post, “Critical online safety alerts always follow cyber security precautions. Be cautious while staying online – do not fall for traps or misinformation. Patriots, be alert, be alert, be safe.”
Users have been asked to share information about helpline, or official advice and relief updates. These details can be useful for people in affected areas, and other users can help keep informing about important updates from official sources.
Matty also says that users should also ensure that any news that plan to share with other users has been fact-bounded for accuracy. There are several facts check outfits online, and the Press Information Bureau (PIB) is actively working to address incorrect information online.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of IT has asked users not to share sensitive information related to Operation Sindoor online. This means that users should not share details related to troupe movement, or other defense related information on social media.
Until it is verified, users have not been directed to forward or share information.
