Through the Australia Telescope Compact array (ATCA), scientists performed a massive radio observation of the Chamelane Cloud Complex. It is a star making area located in 620 light years in the southern sky. The study was published on 19 June 2025 in the Arxiv Pre-Print Server. This research discovered five young stars. This provides a new insight into stellar birth processes in the area of CCC. It contains three major dark clouds, Cha I, CI II, and Cha III, known for their young stellar population. This plays an important role in the understanding of early stellar development.
Stellar activity in chamelane cloud complex
As Study By ATCA, it was found that Chai is about 250 pre-men sequence (PMS) home of stars, and Chai is less than 100 in II. Cha I and CHA II estimates around 2 million years, while Cha III is believed to be in the earlier phase, with the star formation still starting. In a recent campaign led by Ernesto Garcia Valencia, with the aim of finding new young stars in the region High-resolution radio data from ATCA,
Types of stars and their emission properties
Among the five found stars, three were classified as low-dominated tea tori stars, known as relatively developed young stellar items. Another was identified as a protestalor object, while the fifth became a herbig AE/B star. Scientists noticed that in most cases there were non-thermal radio emissions, except for Protostar, which is found to emit thermal radiation.
Further observation and analysis with the help of Australian long baseline array (LBA) was clear that one of the sources, J11061540–7721567, could be a tight binary star system. This binary has an estimated mass of a solar mass, which is a semi-rich axis of a 12 AU, with a orbital period of about 40 years.
Tentative detection and overall identification rate
In addition, this team of scientists temporarily identified five more young stars, which require more confirmation. In totality, the detection rate in the surveyed area has been found somewhere between 2.5% and 5%, which is slightly lower than other known star making areas.
