Samsung’s new 6K monitor can project in 3D without the need for glasses – but this model is more shocking

Ahead of CES 2026, Samsung unveiled a slate of new Odyssey gaming monitors, billed as the company’s “most advanced…lineup yet.” The series consists of five models to be released over the next year, with the 32-inch Odyssey 3D leading the way as “the world’s first 6K glasses-free 3D gaming monitor”.

According to Samsung, the Odyssey 3D uses “real-time eye tracking” to dynamically adjust the screen’s depth and perspective in relation to the viewer’s position. This technology creates multiple visual layers, enabling 3D effects without the need for a headset.

Apart from the features, the monitor has a 6K resolution panel (6,144 x 3,456 pixels), a base refresh rate of 165Hz, and a 1ms response time. That refresh rate can be increased to 330Hz through the dual mode feature.

Samsung also says that select games will receive updates to support the monitor’s 3D capabilities, including Stellar Blade and The First Berserker: Treasure. It’s unclear whether these updates will come with Odyssey 3D or within its wider release window.

As a big gamer, I’m confused by this concept. On the one hand, a glasses-free 3D gaming monitor looks really cool. I often admire demos that completely immerse players in the game world. On the other hand, it’s hard not to be skeptical. 3D TVs were very popular a decade ago, but they fell out of favor due to muddy colors, poor image quality, and a tendency to cause motion sickness.

That said, I’m inclined to give Samsung the benefit of the doubt. It’s possible that the tech giant has addressed these issues, but I’m reserving judgment until I see it in person. If a 3D monitor isn’t your thing, Samsung will also release a non-3D version called the Odyssey G8, as seen in the image above.

It retains many of the same key features, including a 32-inch 6K resolution screen and dual mode, which supports higher refresh rates. A smaller 27-inch version of the G8 will also be available. This bumps the display down to 5K (5,120 x 2,880 pixels) while increasing the base refresh rate to 180Hz.

Completing the lineup are the Odyssey G6, a 27-inch QuadHD (2,560 x 1,440 pixels) IPS monitor, and the Odyssey OLED G8, a 32-inch 4K (3,840 x 2,160 pixels) QD-OLED monitor. At first glance, the G6 may seem like the weakest option due to its lower resolution, but it may prove to be a sleeper hit due to its astonishing 1,040Hz refresh rate. This is one of the highest rates ever seen.

Exact launch dates or price points were not given in the announcement. Looking at the specifications, I’d say the Odyssey G6 would be the most affordable option, but the extremely high refresh rate makes me think twice. Either way, I’m excited to see all five in action soon.
