In a historical achievement for solar astronomy, scientists have unveiled the most detailed view of the Sun’s corona-its superhitted external atmosphere-external atmosphere-ever, never seen plasma characteristics, delicate “rendrops” and a snacking, high-speed plashma stream. Captured using a state -of -the -art adaptive optics system called Kona installed in the Goda Solar Telescope (GST) in California, the new footage provides unmatched clarity of the long -range incurable phenomenon by the Earth’s turbulent environment. Color images to represent hydrogen-alpha lights show colored images, cooler plasma that trace the sun’s magnetic fields in loops and arcs.
Fast solar scenes yet reveal coronal rain, racing plasmoid and twisting prominence
As Researcher In NJIT’s Center for Solar-Taresterial Research, adaptive optics allows the 1.6-meter telescope to reach the theoretical resolution of 63 km. The conclusions have the fastest view of coronal rain – the narrow filaments of the plasma fall back to the solar surface with magnetic field lines, some just 20 kilometers wide. Contrary to Earth’s rain, these plasma threads loop in response to the arc and the magnetism of the Sun. Another striking discovery is an observation of a rapidly growing ‘plasmoid’-a stream of plasma racing in Corona at about 100 kilometers per second.
The footage captured a rapidly re -combination solar prominence – Plasma Loops anchored to the surface of the sun, twisting and dancing under magnetic tension. Scientists believe that such observations can illuminate the mechanism behind coronal mass ejections and solar flarers, the major drivers of the space season. Researchers noted that the surface of the sun appears soft and “alcoholic” due to short -term plasma jets, called spicules, whose origin is mysterious.
The team’s findings were published in the journal Nature on Tuesday, May 27.
The study co-writer Philip Gode mentioned that “it marks the beginning of a new era in solar astronomy.” Researchers now have Daniel in Hawaii. Equal technology is expected to apply in large devices such as inaugurated solar telescope.
