Notorious cyber crime groups scattered spider and shinniers claim that they are retiring, but doubts in the cyber security industry and believe that hackers will remain active.
The scattered spider has been around for many years and recently made several headlines to target retail, insurance and aviation industries. Danger Group has also been in the headlines for its broad salesforce hacking campaign, which affected major companies such as Google.
Many persons with alleged ties with scattered spider have been arrested, accused and sentenced in the last one year.
Some of the recent attacks for scattered spider also include shinoors, a cybercrime group that specializes in forcibly recovery. Both groups are believed to have merged.
In a message posted online last week, scattered Spider and Shinoors announced their retirement. A long manifesto mentions recent high-profile hacks and taunts. Hackers said, “Our objectives have been fulfilled, now it’s time to say goodbye.”

However, the cyber security industry suspects that the cyber criminals will be fully retired. Security Many industries have heard from professionals and most of them have urged organizations not to give their guards down.
This high-profile is not uncommon to make incorrect claims about hazard groups, especially when the pressure of law enforcement is increasing.
“In 2019, the rhinoceros crew announced that they were retiring after earning more than $ 2BN, they cash and left the business,” James Maud said, Field CTO in Paresh said. “A few months later the Revil Ransomware GandcRab affects all the hallmarks of the crew, which has come to the conclusion that they rebuilt rather than really retired.”
“Especially with these groups they are not like the previous danger actors and are a more relaxed connected groups of individuals that are really retired than being retired and more likely to disintegrate and improve in new groups,” Maud said.
Threat Intelligence firm Kela reported that scattered Spider and Shinniers posted a similar retirement statement on Telegram on August 18, in which her telegram channel announced the deletion of the channel, to create a new channel on August 28 only.
Banana said, “This time, despite announcing her retirement about a week ago, she has not removed her channel and continued the posting, including sharing FBI reporting about her,” Bakela said. Security,
Acumen Cyber Cyber Cyberculo Sian Hasley believes that cyber criminals “are buying some time, nervous about the danger of the prison, and arguing behind the curtain how much trouble they are and need to be alert.”
The farewell messages of cyber criminals notes that even though they will be mentioned in new data breech revelations, they will be the result of their old attacks and should not be seen as a sign that they are still active. On the other hand, hackers said, “We have decided that silence will now be our strength”.
Bagcarvad founder KC Ellis said, “The statement about ‘silence being their strength’ may indicate a change in strategy – perhaps moving towards cool, more targeted attacks or other groups selling their expertise.” “It is possible that some members will infection in other forms of cyber crime, such as hacking-for-hire or fraud.”
Palo Alto Network SVP Sam Rubin has exposed some risks that prevent public scattered spider operations. Rubin said, “The theft data can resurve, remain undesken backdoor, and actors can emerge again under new names,” Rubin said. “Silence does not protect the silence from a group of danger. Organizations should be cautious and work under the notion that the danger has not disappeared, only optimized.”
Nivedita Murthy, Senior Employees Advisor to Black Duck said, “It may be possible that some of these groups have decided to step back and enjoy their payday, but it does not stop the copy groups from getting up and replacing them”.
Paresh’s Maud agrees, indicating that “even though some members of the group are retiring, spend their days to cache the sick cryptocurrency in the Caribbean, the amount of money available from cybercrime will ensure that any zero is quickly filled.”
