Signal introduces free and paid backup plans for your chat

Confidential-focused message app signal Announced On Monday that it is starting a feature that allows users to support their text conversations for free with the last 45 days of media. It is also debuting its first paid feature by offering full media backup with storage up to 100GB.

Historically, the messaging app did not allow users to store any type of backup of your conversation on the platform. This can be particularly troubled if you lose or break your phone. When you can move the conversation from one phone to another, there was no cloud backup in the place. The new feature finally resolves the problem, making the signal a more valuable app for a safe message.

The free tier of the signal gives users 100MB storage for text messages and is worth the media of the last 45 days. The company stated in its blog post that it collects the message after compressing them, and will be sufficient for 100MB “even heavy” users.

For users who want to store the media beyond the last 45 days, the company is offering a paid plan of $ 1.99 per month with 100GB storage.

This is the first paid feature of the signal, and the company said it is charging users to assist with the cost of storage in the preservation manner.

You can enable safe backup facility from the app settings, which will then start returning your content daily.

The signal is using zero-knowledge techniques to secure its backup, so they are not associated with a particular user or a specific payment method. Users will receive a 64-ornament recovery key that produces on the device to unlock its backup. Between the signal rivals, WhatsApp provides end-to-end backup through an alternative feature that users have to enable.

At the launch, the signal is only offering this feature on the beta version of its Android app, but said the cross-platform availability is coming soon. Noted that, in the future, it is planned to plan users to save the backup collection. Also, it intends to enable users to move their message history between platforms.
