The signal has updated Microsoft’s AI-operated recall feature from taking screenshots of their interactions and updated its Windows app to protect users’ privacy.
This new privacy feature, which has been dubbed “screen security”, is now capable by default on all Windows 11 devices, where all continuously take screenshots of all active windows in a few seconds and analyze them to create a database that can be discovered using natural language.
When enabled, the screen safety signal app will set a digital rights management (DRM) flag on the window, which will prevent their content from capturing recall or other Windows apps and features.
Microsoft introduced recall in May 2024 when security experts described it as a privacy nightmare and a significant security risk because the attackers could easily make it a weapon to steal user data.
To overcome these concerns, Microsoft recalled a removable opt-in feature, in which users need to sign in using Windows Hello and are upgraded to filter sensitive information (such as credentials and credit card numbers) and to filter some apps, websites, or private browsing sessions.
Microsoft VP David Weston also stated in September that Microsoft added the ability to adjust storage settings, removing snapshot and saving snapshot, along with Microsoft VP David Weston also stated in September that Microsoft said in September.
Signal developer Joshua Lund, “Signal developer Joshua Lund still keeps any material displayed within the privacy-conservation application such as the revision application still keeps any material revived. Said in a blog post of Wednesday,
“As a result, we are enabled an additional layer of security by default on Windows 11 to help maintain the security of the signal desktop on that platform, even though it introduces some purpose trading and closure. Microsoft has not given us any other option.”
The screen safety screen of the signal can cause issues with the readers, so those who want to close it can do so with signal settings> privacy> screen protection.
The signal screen will also show an alert before shutting down security, warning that the Windows feature can take screenshots of your signal chat after disabled.

Lund said, “Apps like signals are essentially no control that is capable of remembering the material, and applying ‘DRM’ that works for you (not against you) we have the best option.”
“We hope that AI teams will think more carefully in the future through these implications such as the construction systems of AI teams. Apps like signals should not apply ‘a strange trick’ to maintain the confidentiality and integrity of their services without proper developer tools. People who cares about privacy should not be forced to reaches the vetter altar.”
However, as Lund said, enabling the screen safety of the signal on your device, there will be no protection from screenshots or recording by others using screen readers on MacoS or Linux devices.
In April, about a year after his introduction, Microsoft began to recall all the customers who installed the Windows 11 KB5055627 update on the Copilot+ PC.
A month later, the company usually made it available to all to all who set up the May 2025 patch update on Tuesday.
