Sony is increasing the price of Playstation 5 in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, EMEA and United Kingdom.
The Japanese company said the decision was made in response to the “challenging economic environment”.
“With the backdrop of a challenging economic environment, including high inflation and exchange rates, SIE has taken a difficult decision to increase the recommended retail price (RRP) of Playstation 5 console in selected markets in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), Australia and New Zealand,” Reads a blog post,
The PS5 digital version will increase in Europe to € 50 to € 499.99. In the UK, the same console will now be retail for £ 429.99 – an upwing of £ 40.
In Australia, the cost of the PS5 digital version will increase from $ 649.95 to $ 749.95. The standard PS5 with disk drives will now be retail from $ 799.95 to $ 829.95.
The final pricing increase will be effective in New Zealand, where the PS5 digital version with DISC drive and standard PS5 will now cost NZD $ 859.95 and $ 949.95 respectively.
Sony said that consumers in the EMEA area may be asked to pay more for hardware, but have been neglected to provide solid pricing information.
The PS5 Pro RRP is currently unchanged. Sony has also reduced the price of its external disk drive accessory.
Sony first announced a comprehensive price increase in August 2022 citing “challenging economic conditions”.
