Battery life is one of the main reasons why many people choose one of the best gamin watches instead of an apple watch, so there is a hope that they will remain until last week instead of days on a charge.
I am testing the new Garmin Forerner 570 and Garmin Forner 970 watches, and the battery life has been one of the few complaints that I have so far with them.
Both watches have bright AMOLED displays-compared to backward gamin models, but still, I was surprised to use 47 mm forever 570 to three to four days, and Forerner 970 to four days, when I was always capable.
It is less than the previous models, Garmin Forrner 265 and the Garmin Forerner 965, so it also let down with the screen upgrade.
Garmin has moved to address it with a free software update for watches, where the main change focuses on improving the battery life.
The software version 6.17 is now available on both watches, although it is worth noting that the battery improvement is only on a large 47 mm model of Forener 570.
How to get germin software updates
The update is now live, and you can already receive a prompt from your watch to update it – when it is pop up, you just have to confirm it on the watch to go through it.
If you have not been prompt or rejected at that time, you can use the update through the menu on the watch.
Hold the menu button – the center of three buttons on the left side of the clock – then go to the system. Check for settings, then systems, then software updates and updates in that menu.
In Change logs for updates, It says that it will improve ‘Battery Life’ required on Watch Face. I am not really sure what that phrase means, but hopefully the result is only battery life.
An essential update
According to the official glasses, the Garmin Forerner 970 should last up to 15 days in the watch mode and the prior 570 47 mm model for 11 days.
This is set to lift with the screen set, but even with always, I will not expect a drop-off in battery life that I have experienced so far.
Even with a set set for screen-to-wheeq, I have found that both watches have made it a battery of only six or seven days.
I am a fairly heavy user, in which I run every day and use the most power-intensive GPS settings on those runs, but I will still expect to get a week of battery from Fortner 970, especially with the screen, as I did with Forener 965, so expected this update makes a difference.
