While our phone screens are their main draws, the phone back has many tricks of themselves. In fact, you have a lot of reasons to look back of your phone besides cleaning the fingerprint.

Turn it into a secret button
If you are using a modern iPhone (iOS 14 and above), you can double-or triple-tap to the back of your phone to do all kinds of tasks, such as taking screenshots, taking a camera, opening the camera, muted your phone, launching an app, or even a shortcut. This feature is called back tap, which you will get Settings> access> Physical and Motor> Touch,
Not all Android phones are inherent in it, but Pixel devices provide a similar feature above Android 12 and later, called Quick Tap (which you will find under setting , System , Gestures , TapLike iOS, you can assign a double tap on the back to trigger tasks such as launching an app, toggling or stopping media.
Samsung phones do not originally offer this feature within a UI, but you can repeat the secret button using a free module, a free module available through Samsung’s Good Lock App. For other Android phones, if you are ready to root, you can use the tap, tap with Github to get the same double-tap feature. It contains a lot of adaptation options that tweek it as per your choice.

Wirelessly charge other devices
If your phone supports reverse wireless charging, it can double as a mini power bank using your back. It is inherent in many Android phones; We have shown how to use reverse wireless charging on Samsung Galaxy S10 and above, for example. Pixel 8 Pro, Plus some Huawei and Xiaomi models also support it. This feature can go from different names at the base of the brand: “Wireless Powercheer,” “Battery Share,” or so on.
On a supported Android phone, turning on this feature usually has a quick togle in settings. Once it is enabled, place other devices (phones, earbuds, smartwatches, etc.) on your back, focusing neatly. Within a few seconds, you should see a charging indicator pop up. Both devices need to support Qi or Q2 wireless charging, which is essentially universal language for such technology.
He said, there are some caves. Reverse charging is slower than plugging with a cable, so do not expect a rapid promotion. Most phones will automatically stop charging other devices, when the battery of the “host” device falls down from a certain point (often around 30%) – ensure that you are not renouncing the power of your phone in this process.
iPhones are not officially this technology yet, but the rumor is that Apple can finally bring it to the iPhone 17 Pro, according to the least tipster Immediate digital (Through Marastersfingers crossed.

pay
Thanks to the Chip (near Field Communication) Chip is usually tucking behind your phone, you can tap your device against a compatible reader to make contactless payments for your morning coffee, grocery items, and more.
To get rolling, you have to set a mobile payment app. Google Wallet is a Go-Two option on Android, while Apple works basically on Pay iPhone. Samsung also offers Samsung wallet, which works equally on its galaxy devices. These apps let you safely add your debit or credit card, and depend on where you live, even transit or digital ID.
In many cities, you can use the same technique to swipe in office buildings with NFC badges or breeze through events with digital tickets. Some hotel chains, such as Starwood, Hilton, Marriott and Hampton, even let you unlock the door of your room with a tap of your phone. Very good, right?
4
Tiger smart home action
As mentioned earlier, you can double or triple tap to the rear panel of your phone to complete assigned custom activities within your phone. However, you can get more creative with it and set custom actions that control your smart devices.
For example, you can create a shortcut that turns off all your lights, adjusts the thermostat, or locks the front door – and then binds that shortcut into a back tap gesture.
If you are feeling additional clever, you can also buy and use cheap NFC tags like these babiqt NFC tags to trigger smart routines. For example, an NFC tag near your front door, can trigger the routine of “home leave” when scanned, or activate a “good night” scene on your bedside table.
On iPhone, you can use a shortcut app to set it on Android, such as apps NFC Equipment What happens when you scan the tag, make it easy to customize.

Measure your heart rate (on some phones)
Old Samsung Galaxy Flagship phones- especially through S10 Galaxy S5 (except S10E and S10 5G), and Note between Note 4 and Note 9 is a slight heart rate sensor on the back. It was usually near the camera flash.
You just had to press your finger against it, and the Samsung Health app will give you a quick readout. It was a small feature while it was gone. Samsung eventually phased out after S10 and Note 9, instead focused on smartwatch and wareballs for health tracking.
But even if your current phone does not have a dedicated sensor, you are not completely out of luck. Many third-party apps like CardiographAnd even some built-in such as Google are fit on some pixel models, only using cameras and flash can measure heart rate.
They use a method called PPG for Short, which seems to be grand, but essentially tracks small changes in blood flow under your skin by highlighting it. It is not going to match a hospital-grade monitor, but out of casual fitness tracking or curiosity, it is quite good. Given the age of these devices and some apps, take your results with salt grains.

Useful gift stick on the back
The back part of your phone is prime real estate, so why not put it to work with some useful add-on? Here are some of the favorite that I have found surprisingly:
- Popsockets For more comfortable grip (and reduce your phone leaving mid-scroll).
- Magsef Purse It safely snaps magnetically and holds its important objects in one place.
- Adhesive card holder For quick access to your ID, transit pass, or bank card.
- Sticky mounts Or Ring holder If you spend a lot of time in the car or spend a lot of time in cooking with a recipe, come in handy.
- NFC-competent security keys, Like YubikeyCan be tapped behind your phone to log into safely supported apps. Unlike others, it works with just one tap – don’t keep it attached to your device!
If it is thin, useful, and does not interfere much with wireless charging, it can probably be behind your phone.
1
Use it as a mirror
This can be low-technical, but if your phone has a shiny or glass back, especially with a mirror finish, it can act as a makeshift mirror. It works to check if the spinach is stuck in your teeth or if your sunglasses are omitted. It is not crisp as a real mirror, but for those “am I fine?” Moments, this work gets done. This is faster and low-technical than using your phone’s selfie camera for the same purpose.
If you want to take it a step forward, you can stick a little mirror tile on the back. Or better yet, hold a phone case with a built -in mirror like the Ztofra Mirror case.
A quick dose of nostalgia- Remember Android Beam? It can relax peacefully. All this took all the two phones tapped together, and the files would be transferred immediately through NFC.
As you now know, your phone can have a back Have your back In different ways. It is time when you stopped ignoring it and appreciated it a little pat (or tap!).
