Are you looking to take some novels on your next vacation? If you have many books that you’re carrying on flights, to the beach, or in between classes, I can think of a lightweight solution to your book-induced back pain. A Kindle.

The Kindle is a portable, e-reading powerhouse that can be loaded with every book on your to-read list. Amazon’s Black Friday sale started last week, and one of the most popular e-readers base model kindleOn sale for only $80. This is almost 30% off and saves you $30 and applies to both the Matcha and Black models.

Too: The best Black Friday deals are live now

You can also see the offer on most other Kindles, like the Paperwhite, ColorSoft, or Scribe.

I tested the 2024 base model Kindle and I liked its slim and portable build. I found myself downloading more e-books from my public library and reading a variety of novels because of how easy it was to rent them through Libby and read them while sitting on the subway or passing the time in waiting rooms at doctor’s appointments. The Kindle actually fits in my coat pocket, which is almost miraculous for a woman, considering how small women’s pockets are. Page-turning and book-loading speeds were significantly faster than my Kindle Oasis or Kindle Paperwhite from the 2022.

Also: The best Black Friday Kindle deals

I recommend the base model Kindle to people who have never owned an e-reader before, as the Kindle Paperwhite has a few more functionalities that major bookworms and e-reader obsessives will appreciate, but won’t matter for e-reading novices. You’re getting about six weeks of battery life on the base model Kindle – a long time between charges, to say the least.

I also loved the bright matcha colorway of the base model Kindle, the latest green color it has added to its 2024 Kindle lineup. It’s an eye-catching pop of color that adds some sparkle to the e-reader, so you can easily find it in your backpack or book bag.

Too: My favorite color e-reader is on sale for the lowest price ever, and it’s not made by Kobo or Boox

“What 2024 kindle However, it has a beautiful and effective simplicity that makes it easy to recommend the e-reader to anyone looking to achieve their reading goals in the new year,” I write in my review.

So if you’re looking to add a cover and an adapter to your new Kindle purchase, I’d recommend taking advantage of this 27% discount. kindle While it’s live.

    How I evaluated this deal

I give this deal a 3/5 rating based on ZDNET’s editor’s deal rating system because the discount is 27% off the Kindle’s original price, and Kindle e-readers don’t go on sale very often. If you want to buy a Kindle now, you can do so and save $30, or wait until the summer for July Prime Day — and that price will potentially drop.

These savings should last at least until Cyber Monday (December 1), but Amazon’s Black Friday sales started on November 20 and the deal could end at any time.

However, ZDNET is committed to finding, sharing and updating the best offers to help you maximize your savings so you can feel as confident in your purchase as we feel in our recommendations. Our team of ZDNET experts constantly monitor the deals we feature to keep our stories up to date. If you missed this deal, don’t worry — we’re always finding new savings opportunities at ZDNET.com.
