It is as if Apple took a checklist of power-user requests for a long time and fulfilled them all. It is enough that the garden with the wall walls of the app store may be the last reason for your Mac.
For me, the productivity change of iPad was the most complicated part of Apple’s WWDC 2025 Keenot. Years ago, when Apple first made iPados friendly to work, I tried to replace my MacBook with iPad Pro. After reviewing several microsoft surfaces, I wanted a damper equal to an apple. Therefore, despite the clear boundaries of the iPad, I gave it a shot.
For most things I did, it was fine. But there were always tasks that slowed me down. Apple’s split view, which keeps two apps shoulder to shoulder, was solid. The stage manager added even more winding nuances. But it was still not manually similar to the arrangement of windows. I just had to hop on a Mac, and things became clear: the iPad was not ready for my workflow. I was trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.
Changes in iPados 26 will finally bring the tablet closer to something that can change Mac. For many people, I suspect that it will be more than enough. You can place windows anywhere and shape them liquidly. The menu bar will make it easier to reach the fine controls of the apps. You can tile the windows and see them all in a grid with exposes. The files app holds with the Finder of the app Mac. The new preview app should be made a document editing a brreege. And you can easily return to full-screen iPad simplicity at any time.
This question raises: iPados is still less than Macos? It is lock-in, stupid.
Mac grew up in an era when you could install the app from anywhere. First, it was a disc. Then, internet. Certainly, Apple made changes in the last decade that restrict Macos slightly more. The system comes to the brain. Gatekeeper too. However, overall, it remains a relatively open environment. Getting your apps from anywhere often means a comprehensive selection, sharp updates and low restrictions.
On the other hand, iPhad developed from iPhone. (They can remember the old enough “it’s just a big iPod touch” commentary, which is making fun of the first model.) App Store has always been the only official way of installing apps on iPad (despite the exceptions of the European Union). It lives in iPados 26.
Tablet software also prevents apps from overrising security and privacy restrictions. Although it may not look like a good idea, it may be a killer feature for the reliable Mac app.
For example, the keyboard Maestro on MACOS can almost automate anything that you can do with the keyboard and the mouse. BETTETOCHTOOL also provides an endless list of adaptation, including window control. (My favorite yellow “traffic light” button is changing so that it hides the apps instead of reducing them.) Curbiner-elements let you remop up any key. A clipboard manager, with a single keystroke, can display everything you copy.
Then there are Mac apps that allow you to use options for versions of Apple. Third-party launcher such as Rast and Alfred are like a spotlight on steroids. (Their extension libraries are very spacious, they have their own storefronts.) Many Mac apps provide more flexible text replacement than the underlying solutions of Apple.
What does iPados 26 draw a line between two types of power users. As before, Mac Power users will use some combinations of the above examples. Meanwhile, a new class of iPad power users will enjoy the desktop capabilities of the tablet. But the latter will still be limited to the version of Apple, okay, EverythingShakti is very strong now; Openness, however, is not.
For this reason alone, I will probably be a Mac-first person for the future. But iPados 26 will definitely entice me to use.
