Meta has officially started advertising in WhatsApp’s “status” section. In-app advertisements appear to be similar to Instagram stories, which is a major change for a popular messaging app.
Advertisements come, but only one place
If you check Update Tab on WhatsApp, you will pop up the sponsored post between the status of your friends. Advertisement can only appear after scrolling some situation from your friends through updates.
The status screen is the place where Meta has chosen to test advertisements, leaving private chats. The move is finally part of a comprehensive plan to mudge WhatsApp’s popularity.
In short, the company wants to earn money without removing our privacy concerns.
Meta says that these advertisements will not rely on personal message material or phone number. Instead, they will be targeted using normal data -like locations, device language, channels you follow and advertising you interact. Your account priorities stored with meta will also affect advertisements you see.
WhatsApp shared his intention blog post,
We have worked in the last two years so that you can make this tab a place to find something new on WhatsApp and it is now used by 1.5 billion people a day. We are encouraged with enthusiasm and also want to help organizations and businesses on WhatsApp.
Along with advertisements, the meta is also rolling out the equipment paid for businesses and creators. This includes:
- Promotion channel To promote search
- Membership channel Where manufacturers can charge followers for exclusive materials
Interestingly, Meta will not cut these membership for the first year. Perhaps it is to attract the early adoptors. Together, this update signal WhatsApp is no longer a messaging app. Meta wants it to become a full trade platform, which is like a weitcht in China.
Advertisement without infiltration (for now)
With more than 3 billion users, WhatsApp is one of the previous major meta products that are not pulling into large advertising dollars. The update section alone has 1.5 billion daily views. It is a very unused eyeball.
But Meta also knows that WhatsApp users value privacy. By limiting advertisements to status updates and not chatting, it is threading the needle carefully. If you do not use the situation for its sharing features, you cannot even notice that anything has changed.
But WhatsApp is maturing. An app cannot run for free forever. For years, it remained free from advertisements, while her sister went to Arabs with apps, Facebook and Instagram, Mudrikaran. Now, it is on the same road, but with a ginger. Advertisements are here, yes, but only in a place that already feels public. I will not consider advertisements on the status screen if the meta can keep the chat untouched and my privacy remains intact.
