I’ve been wearing prescription glasses since I was a kid, so trust me when I tell you I know a lot about keeping lenses clean and protected – I’ve had over 20 years of practice.

While it may seem like you can clean your sunglasses or goggles with any old “glass cleaner” or something as simple as soap and water, I’m here to tell you that this can be a big (and expensive) mistake. Most glass cleaning products (even dishwashing soap) can be too abrasive and harsh for particular lenses and can damage protective coatings for UV, glare, blue light, and others.

Too: The biggest upgrade to the new iPad Pro isn’t the M5 chip

Of course, clean at your own risk, but there’s no solution for damaged lens coatings – you’ll have to pay for new lenses.

Too: I tested a $15 screen-cleaning solution used in Apple stores and it works like a charm

And just like glasses, the screens of your tech products should be handled with utmost care. Lucky for you, I’m sharing one of my best-kept secrets that can clean lenses and screens with ease – without any damage. meet koala cleaner,

Koala Cleaner is my all-time favorite cleaning product for my glasses, and has been for many years. Nothing keeps my lenses more crisp or crystal clear than the Koala, and the included K-Cloth (which is made of Japanese microfiber) is the best for cleaning. This includes dozens of other microfiber cloths that I’m embarrassed to use, and I can always tell when I haven’t used one.

Koala Cleaner is available on Amazon 2-piece, 4-pieceAnd 6 piece sets, with the smallest set starting at $8 and the largest starting at $18. I’ve purchased several iterations of these kits over the years, but if you’re buying for the first time or want to try it out the 2-piece set is a great place to start. This kit includes a 2-ounce bottle of Koala Cleaner (about 275 sprays) and a K-Cloth microfiber cleaning cloth for less than $10.

Koala says its cleaner is safe for glasses and sunglasses, coated lenses, electronic displays, and more. It’s alcohol and ammonia free and made in the USA. Microfiber cloth traps particles and is easy to wash and reuse.

Too: I found the $25 USB-C charging cable to rule them all — here’s why it’s different

As the lucky winner of astigmatism in both eyes, Koala maintains my special lens coating while also clearing out streaks, grime, and more. And I’ve used this cleaner successfully on almost every tech product I own, and it even cleans screens safely and effectively. I’ve personally used Koala Cleaner on my iPhone, iPad, MacBook Pro M3, HP Envy x360, Kindle Paperwhite, Apple Watch SE, Canon Rebel EOS T7 camera, and more. Here’s a great rundown of the products Koala says are compatible with its cleaner:

    • Glasses (Premium coated, blue light, polarized, etc.)
    • lens (Camera lens, binoculars, telescope, microscope, etc.)
    • technology (VR headset, smartphone, laptop, screen, tablet, car display etc.)

There are many other screen cleaning options out there. ZDNET’s Adrian Kingsley-Hughes likes this woosh screen cleaner – He says the same products some Apple stores use to clean dozens of screens. Woosh advertises itself as the “only approved cleaner” for Apple products, but ultimately, it has cornered the market. Koala’s kit does pretty much the same thing (cleans the screen), is cheaper, and is reviewed by over 57,000 customers with an average 4.6/5 star rating. The bottom line is that this $8 kit works – and well.

Here are some general cleaning tips I like to follow when cleaning my screen with Koala Cleaner:

    • Do not spray the liquid directly onto the display – spray it on a cloth first. Then wipe.
    • If there is any abrasive substance on the screen – such as sand – use a soft brush To remove it.
    • Wipe the entire body of your device, avoiding internal entry points such as the charging port.
    • Consider cleaning your device’s case according to the manufacturer’s instructions. I’m a fan of disinfecting wipes in most cases.
    • Wash the K-Cloth regularly so that it is ready for the next time.

bonus tip: If you have a screen protector on any device, be sure to inspect it for cracks, breaks, or scratches. I recommend replacing the screen protector immediately as soon as any cracks appear on its surface, because once it is subjected to enough impact to break, it loses its maximum protection.

Why do I recommend this product?

The Koala cleaning kit has everything I need to keep my glasses and screen smudge, dirt, and smudge-free for under $10. It’s economical and functional, and the microfiber cloth is reusable. As a lifelong glasses owner and a techie this has become a staple product in my kit, and I’ve repurchased it countless times.

If you’re looking for an easy and affordable way to keep your screen and lenses clean, I highly recommend this Koala Cleaning Kit,
