- Someone placed an airtag in a pair of sneakers and donated them to a charity.
- Shoes ended on a trip of 800 km across Europe
- This experiment shows what can happen to your donated clothes
When you donate clothes to a donation, do you really know where they end? In most cases you do not do, but an tickek user decided to fit a pair of sneakers with an Apple Airtag tracker and to see where they had gone – and the result was very surprising.
Was done by experimentation Moe.ha on TiktokHe slipped into a pair of sneakers donated to an Airtag, then placed them in a red cross collection bin in Munich, Germany.
Across the five -day period, the shoes left Germany and crossed through Austria, Slovenia and Croatia, eventually 800 km from its early place in Bosnia and Herjegovina. Once, they get injured on a shelf in a second hand shop.
Moe.ha decided to follow the donated sneakers to Bosnia and Herzegovina and managed to detect the store, where the shoes were sitting on a shelf, waiting for about 10 euros to be purchased. According to an employee in the store, the objects were brought by their boss, who live in Germany.
How did this happen?

You may be surprised how a pair of donated shoes have finished from their original place so far – finally, wouldn’t it make much understanding to send them to a goodwill store in the local area sold there?
The reality, however, is more complex. According to the website of German Red Cross (Through translation), There are two separate routes to take donated clothes. An alternative is “recycler model”, resulting in the entire content of a donation collection being sold to a recycling company.
The other model is the “depot model of the fabric”, where the fabrics are sorted by the red cross and the appropriate items are distributed to the depot and thrift store, in which the extra pieces are sold to a recycler. This route seems to be a process that had to pass through the sneakers of Moe.ha. Whatever route is taken, however, the income leads to the work of the red cross.
Such an experiment reflects the value in attaching a tracker to a tracker to an important object, just if you lose it. Even though the shoes were traveling 800 km across Europe, the found of Moe.ha Apple was able to follow them using my app.
Hopefully anything you lost will not be enough till now, but if you have found an item tracker, you may be able to hunt them regardless of them.
