YouTube is a wonderful tool. If you want to do anything, from playing a tool to fixing home appliances, there is a video on the site that somewhere to do it. Problem: YouTube does not always act like a tool. A rabbit hole of related videos, comments and other distractions is easy to succeed (mostly because the site that is designed to ensure that you do it at all).
If you want YouTube to behave more like a tool and is less like a dopamine factory, then I advise RejectThis browser extension available for chrome, edge, firefox, safari and opera allows you to create about 300 tweaks on the YouTube website, allowing you to remove distracted features and enable some useful people by default.
To start, install the extension and click on the icon. You will see some useful options, including the ability to hide all shorts, but to find really useful things, click All settings box below. This allows you to browse twics for every page on the YouTube website, including video page, home page and search results.
I suggest that you start with the location you spend most of your time: Video page. Scroll through the list and you will get different tweaks that you can make. The first thing I did, “hide the related video” and “show the chapter” automatically “. This immediately converts the space into a tool from a rabbit hole to the right of the video, which you can use to browse the currently played video, which you are with the intention of finding accurate information.

There are more great features here. You can disable the suggestions shown at the end of the video. You can force the theater mode, which means that the video will always take full width of the screen. You can automatically expand the video details, which means that you have to click on the “more” button to find the link that you are watching. You can completely disable the comments completely, if you want you spend less time in scrolling through them. You are under control.
YouTube’s homepage, membership page and even search results are similar options. If there is anything about youtube interface that you do not find distraction or generally useful, just disable it. In an ideal world, YouTube (and every other site) will work in this way, but it is good that there are equipment that lets you customize things.
