    • Windows Edge Lite attempts to improve your look on video calls.
    • The app places a light ring around your screen with more ambient light.
    • Edge lighting works best in an area where there are no other types of lighting.

I never like the way I look on video calls. My skin is fair and it is not easy to recognize me properly. Also, my office is not well arranged, so I can’t easily set up the light source in the most optimal position. That’s why I was eager to try a new Windows app that promises to make me look better on video.

    ‘Vibed’ for Windows

known as windows edge liteThis free app places a fake flashing circular light ring around the edges of your laptop screen or PC monitor. By providing a certain level of brightness that you control, the app provides ambient lighting that can work during video calls, streaming, or other instances where you want to look your best.

The app is the creation of Microsoft developer Scott Hanselman, who revealed how he came up with the idea.

“I saw this article about a new Mac feature called ‘Edge Light’ that literally puts a fake white ring light around your screen,” Hanselman wrote in a Recent posts on X“It’s kind of crazy and genius, So I developed it for Windows,”

    how to try

To try it, visit the app Release page on GitHubDownload the correct version for your version of Windows 10 or 11 –ARM or x64, Unzip the downloaded zip file, and then run the WindowsEdgeLight executable file – no installation required,

    this helps a little

The light source appears automatically and detects the size of your screen to adjust accordingly. This light also works on 4K monitors. Also, a small toolbar pops up at the bottom. Here, you can increase or decrease the brightness, turn the light on and off, or turn off the source when you don’t need it.

You can also access the tool from the Windows system tray and use specific hotkeys to control the lighting.

Too: I tried T-Mobile’s satellite phone service on an off-grid adventure—here’s what surprised me most

The light won’t interfere with your activity in Windows, although you can easily dim it or turn it off. The main challenge is to see if this improves your appearance on the video call.

For my part, the light helped a little. I still don’t like the way I look, because I look too white. But I can see how side lighting would help other people, especially if you’re in a dark room where other lights aren’t available. If you’ve tried other tricks to look better on video calls, Windows Edge Lite is definitely worth a try.
