Taking pictures of Akash at night is one of the most challenging type of photography. Not too much light is available (of course, it’s night), and to really get the epic images, you really want a wide-angle lens. Finding fast lens is not difficult, nor are there wide-angle lenses, but Fast Wide-angle lenses are very rare. Rare, and often really expensive.
Sigma Art 14 mm F1.8 DG HSM It is not cheaper than any stretch, but it is appropriate how fast and wide it is. I traveled for years with an anter 12-24 mm F4 DG HSM, an predecessor of this lens. The lens was amazing for many things, including the inner parts of the submarines and other tight spaces. While F4 is not slow, it is not particularly sharp. I was able to receive some cool pictures of Milky Way and Star filled with star, but no one was really me PreferredRecently on a trip Death Valley National Park In the Campaan made by me, I rented 14 mm F1.8 and Oh My My.
My experience with art 14 mm f1.8 dg hsm
You can see a million miles tonight, but you cannot go too far.
One of the major challenges with astrophotography is that you do not have the luxury of time as you do in other low-light conditions. Earth is spinning, after all, so if you want a pinpoint of starlight, you need to limit your shutter speed. My old art was pushing it 30 seconds for a wide-angle lens like 12-24 mm F4. 500 rules It is said that 41 seconds were maximum for this lens, but I found that it was too long. Worse, most of the lenses can look soft when wide open (on F4 in that case), especially on the edges of the frame. So you often want to step in some stages, which means that your shutter time must be even longer to get the same amount of light. What to say, this is a good balance and one is that I am never quite complete with art 12-24 mm F4.
Blind, art looks similar to 14 mm F1.8 My 12-24 mm F4. It is a very large lens, which is almost large as F4, and weighs 1,120 grams beef. At the top is a distance scale with the depth of the field indicator. This often does not require you to worry about the depth of the area with such a wide angle lens. Autofocus is not great, but for astrophotography, the camera is on a tripod, and a large manual focus ring to help make smooth adjustments. While the front elements move outwards, there are least wings to avoid some disasters. You want to be careful, though.
A motorized star tracker can help you get the magnificent images of low -lens stars, but because they walk with the sky, you can get the earth in the photo and nothing on it.
As I mentioned above, I traveled with F4 for years and let me know, you are always going to notice its weight. In your bag, on camera, switching lenses – this is a drag. This basically doubles the weight of any camera that attachs it. Therefore, 14 mm F1.8 is as good, it is one of my main reasons that I hesitate to add it to my kit. I do not even tours as many photos as I used to do, so I do not need such special lenses.
In addition, all prime lenses are less flexible than a good zoom lens, which is fine, because each is used. Nevertheless, a 14 mm lens has a very specific form and is not even favorable for the same conditions as it is, 35 mm or 50 mm lens. If you are not familiar with such ultravide lenses, everything seems as if you shot it with a gopro. The way of better quality than a Gopro, but it is beauty. It is not necessarily a bad thing, just to consider something. This is also not Weather Praufa.

14 mm F1.8 is a heavy lens, but it is not as big as it seems. Here it is climbing on my canon R6. Note that the clear shape between the EF-to-RF adapter increases.

Canet purchase advice
As much as I love this lens and flying with its performance, I will first accept that it is not for everyone. On the one hand, just like the 14 mm F1.8, there are only a handful of faster, wide lenses and no one knows that I know that Sigma is wide and cost as fast. On the other hand, $ 1,599 is a lot of money for a lens that most people will not use regularly. However, if you know that you will use it frequently, it’s great! I wish I had space (and money) to add to my kit.
Sigma Art 14 mm F1.8 DG HSM is available for all full-frame lens mounts, including Canon EFLika L-Mount, Nikon f, Soni e And Sigma’s own. While the lens is still available as new as this writing, it seems that Sigma is closing it for some mounts including Canon and Nikon. Fortunately, it is available for a few years, so there are some used options Say And StagedIf you go to that route, see our guide to buy the camera gear used.
