This is the thing I jealous about windows

For most time of my life, I have used an operating system in addition to Windows. I am not a fan of Microsoft’s platform, but there is one thing that is better than someone else.

Apps actually work on Windows for a long time

Before most new software appeared on the web, it was written for Windows. And even though most software can be run directly into a web browser, they can still not target Windows first (at least on desktop PC). Here’s the matter – once they are made for apps Windows, they will actually work for a long time.

How long it is, even more than the number of apps released, that I jealous the most about Windows. You can try to run a PC game purchased in the 90s and there is a non-zero chance that can still work.

This may seem a small thing, but you do not fully appreciate what you have got until you have to do without it.

Microsoft gives priority to apps breaking apps

Many businesses run on ancient software that no longer receive updates. They do not consider switching the operating system, when they know another option exists, as it will completely disturb their workflow. Microsoft knows this about its customers. As a result, more than any of its contestants, the company prefer not to make changes that break other apps.

How to run old software in compatibility mode on Windows 11

Found an ancient app or game? Here is how to run it.

This is not to say that the new Windows updates never break the software. This happens, not to update a new version of Windows as a reason with people using it (and oh boy, what are the many other reasons to justify this decision). Such software is indispensable by rupture, but when Microsoft wants to experiment with a change that knows that it will break all things, it goes to ship them as an alternative version of Windows, such as Windows RT back in the day or today Windows on the hand. This is a contradiction with Apple, which is prone to make unilateral changes and tell the third -party developers to go on board.

As much as it bothers me that you are away from stumbling in an ancient part of the windows away from only a few clicks, which have not changed in a decade, the stability of the platform of Microsoft is a great reason that a stoam -like storefront can offer the power to live.

This is not a case on linux

Linux can give strength to most internet, but only a small minority people use Linux on the desktop. For a long time, I was one of them. While I really liked many of the Linux apps that I used on Windows software, which I left behind, always had at least a program that I wanted I would come to Linux.

But as time passed and the new versions of Linux appeared on an approximate rhythm, the existing Linux apps will stop working. Linux reduced changes that often improve or revive things, backgrounds, rolling out components Linux users know by names like Systemd and Wayland, which developers need to update their apps. Never do anything.

First, I completely believed in the promise that the open source software never dies. But for less popular programs that no one wants to maintain, once the most recent release starts to break, it can be dead, even if the source code is still present in a sarcoofagus.

    Smartphones and tablets are worse

Now I do all my computing on my phone, a foldable Galaxy Z fold 6. I love desktop mode like Samsung Dex, but I currently use them as a Folwack. I am writing this first draft by hand in Samsung notes. Then I will tap on a Galaxy AI button to convert my handwriting into text using an on-device processing.

Why i dig Linux for Samsung Dex

I forgot how big the hardware can make.

I have tried many writing apps over the years. Some like IA writer, have disappeared from Play Store. Even those who stopped, their efficiency has changed. Coterpad Outside the app is easily used to save all files in a folder (to backup files for external storage or to control your data in general). Now, due to Google security requirements for integrated apps with Google Drive, the locally saved files of Jotterpad have now been removed somewhere inaccessible.

Mobile games are probably the most disappointing. It is quite bad about how many games fall in iPhones but not Android. It is bad to see how many games came in Android, but no big run on new phones, like Final Fantasy Crystal History Or mobile classics like original ShadyAn app can be popular today and will not be available in a few years now.

I have not switched back to use Windows after all these years, and I have no plans (perhaps by hand on an Xbox gaming). But as I enjoy embracing new forms of computing, I look at this one aspect of windows with a glow of jealousy in my eyes.
