I am turning my home into a smart house this year, but I do not have unlimited money, and I am frugal with brands I choose. This small gadget has given a major boost to the climate control of my house, and it costs me less than $ 20.

    This switchbott meter plus

Switchbot meter plus is a small name, which you will see if you seek online product. The front switchbot of the box reads thermometer and hygometer plus. Yes, I will stick to the younger.

If you are unfamiliar with the switchbott, the company does a lot to a smart home, which may require universal remote and robot vacuum to smart roller shades.

The meter plus is a small, battery-powered sensor that measures the temperature and humidity levels around the room, which is placed. The device makes the device “smart” which is your ability to look at this information from your phone and track historical changes over time. This special model is substance-compatible, so it works with any smart home ecosystem.

    Now let’s make it terrible.

I know the temperature away from my thermostat

The temperature can swing from the room to the room wildly. I live in a wide, single -storey house. The thermostat is in the hallway at a distance of a few feet from the living room. In winter, it can be hot in the living room but can be frigid in our bedroom. With a thermometer in my bedroom, I can now know exactly what the delta between the two rooms is actually.

This is something that anyone can do thermometer, of course. A smart thermometer provides this information on your phone, and substance-regulation means that it is now the data that I can see from the smart home hub produced in my Samsung Frame TV.

I can accommodate my smart thermostat based on any room

If you do not want you do not need to study any of that data. You can only command the central air when the thermostat hits a certain temperature, but when any connected thermometer instead. This occurs using automation, as I have created in Samsung Smartathings.

Under $ 20 each, I can slowly put one in each bedroom, our home office, or any other room where we spend a wide amount of time. If this is a place where we feel ourselves away from the central thermostat, it is a place that can benefit from smart thermometer.

This is a feature that Google is actually developed in its nest learning thermostat (at a price of only $ 280), if you combine it with a nest temperature sensor (whose cost $ 40 each). I can only get about five switchbott meters plus for the price of two nest sensors, each one serving as a competent standalone device, which has its own useful screen and the ability to read more than just temperatures (Nest sensors are just screen-less pak). My thermostat was not worth about $ 300. I bought a case for $ 80 instead-bought a case-composed Honeywell Smart X2S.

Such a specialty would have a pleasure in our previous 50-year-old divided-level house, whose lower floor was often additional frigid or toast, while the main living area had comfort.

I can monitor the temperature shift over time

Adjusting the thermostat to compensate for variation between rooms is a cruel-force approach that can increase your monthly energy use. It is better to find out how the wind moves from your home and takes practical steps to reduce issues.

This is the place where data can be helpful, especially for rooms that you often use. With this cheap small smart sensors, I can open the switchbot app to see how the temperature has moved in different times and throughout the year.

With such information, I can make a better plan, where fans may be worth inserting to transmit air from your wooden stove in winter or at what time of day I should close my shutter in summer.

    Don’t forget about humidity

I have focused on temperature, as it is the information in which I am the most interested, but the meter plus also measures the level of humidity. I have started paying more attention to that number as soon as I enter my bedroom. We do to keep our windows open, and I see that humidity moves towards a storm.

I am eager to see how low in winter, when cold dry air starts having a problem for us. The sensor will tell me when the wind is dry and when I should run a humidifier, something that I have never been a good judge.

A smart home can get out of economy, but these days you can fill a house with smart lights, switches and sensors for the price of a smartphone – and all of this is thanks to such cheap but functional small gadgets (combined with regular sales throughout the year).

In the last month, my wife bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab S10+ to replace her aging iPad, and I ordered a 50 smart switch to change every wall switch in my house. It can come as a surprise, but converting all the light of our house into smart light was not more expensive for those two investments.
