- Silicon Motion SM2324 9mm Chip Power Outside SSDs up to 32TB and
- It promises the correct USB4 speed of 4,000MB/s
- Produced for filmmakers and backup warriors, this chip supports Apple Pro Workflow
Silicon Motion has revealed the potential transformational piece of storage tech in Computex 2025: SM2324A single-chap USB4 SSD controller aims to strengthen the external drive with storage up to 32TB and reads the speed of 4,000MB/s.
The company says SM2324 combines native USB4 support with an integrated power delivery controller, which means low costs, low costs for OEMS, and more compact SSD enclosure.
This, in principle, can be ashars in a new class of ultra-high-capacity portable drive-although strength and availability are still major questions.
A compact controller designed for scale and cross-platform use
Unlike multi -chip designs, it is designed to simplify production without compromising on performance, thanks to the sequential writing speed that can reach 3,809MB/s -Sasuming cooling, sufficient.
It provides full support for 3D TLC and QLC Nand, as well as compatibility with power delivery 3.1, and is designed using the 12Nm lower node of TSMC to keep the power demands appropriate.
With support up to 32TB and compatibility with Windows, Macos, Linux, and Apple Prres Workflows on iPhones, the controller clearly targets a wide market -hurt for enterprise backup users from mobile filmmakers.
Whether it ends in a drive competing for the best portable hard drive or the best SSD position not only depends on its glasses, but how it applies.
Nevertheless, there are cavets. While single-chip simplicity reduces the cost of BOM, there is no promise that 32TB USB4 SSDs will be priced for mainstream users based on SM2324.
Nand prices, thermal management requirements, and lack of power distribution can push all the final product into the expert area.
So when it can eventually sit with the best external SSD options in performance, it cannot do so at the price.
This device comes with security features including AES 128/256-bit encryption, hardware SHA-384, a TRNG and full TCG Opal 2.0 support for compliance.
There is also alternative support for fingerprint-based certification, although integration details are unclear.
It also integrates the Nandxtnd LDPC ECC engine of silicon motion, which improves endurance and reliability for both TLC and QLC memory.
In terms of design, the chip is compact, is just 9 mm to 9 mm, and it contains an aluminum heat spreader, which makes it viable for a thin exterior enclosures.
In silicon motion, we are focused on giving SSD controlle solution that lead in both performance and power efficiency, “said Nelson Dune, senior VP of Client and Automotive Storage Business in Silicon Motion.
“… SM2324 completely defines portable storage with a fully integrated single-chip USB4 solution. These technologies reflect our commitment to help customers create rapid, small and more efficient SSDs for next generation applications.”
