As last year’s top-off-the-line offer, TCL’s 2024 flagship TV, QM8A remarkable upgradation was promised from the 2023 edition. I spent some time with it in the last month, to see what was publicity.
The first pleasant surprise I faced how TCL made it very easy to unbox the 65 -inch model, which we sent to the ZDNET lab. With a single slices of cardboard under one side of the box, the top raised up to free the TV for the setup.

While it is super convenient, handling the TV and attaching your base stand-like is best executed as a job with any other big TV. By the way, the 65-inch QM851G is the smallest in the series, with a surprising of 115 inches at the high end of the scale (which comes with a stunning value tag properly.)
A notable change compared to the 2023 model is that the new QM8 has a single central platform for its base rather than two different legs. This montage is equal to a strong unit with great stability and allows the TV to sit on the coffee table or stands less than the total width of the media screen.
Also: I have been reviewing TV for 10 years and these are the best of 2025.
Operated, QM8 looks like a smooth, black rectangle, with no bezel around 57 x 32.5 inch frame. The thin sides of the unit have a brush gunmetal finish – it gives a subtle and elegant appearance. You usually have to pay more part of the price to get a similar definition.
The remote of the unit is not 1.25 inches wide. The keys are completely backlit and include a MIC button for the voice command via Google. It also has a shortcut button for Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube, Apple TV, Pluto and, of course, TCL+TV. Naturally, these are the default app that appears on the home page of the TV interface. I felt curious that TCL+TV app appeared twice in the list of available apps (instead of Apple TV or Pluto) – but it is a TCL television, after all.
Very few people know that I read the instructions to use TV, I grabbed the remote and gave it a “intuition test”, to see how soon I can join and start with the Internet. The user interface of QM8 is clean and straightforward, and it runs on the Google TV platform, an operating system that is more than the feature-rich-a good thing in my book. Overall, starting was a fairly attractive process.

Well, I will participate about the performance and quality of the picture.
QM8 is a QLED TV with a mini-LED backlighting, which means that it is also bright compared to most OLED models. In fact, QM8 is up to 5,000 NITS peaks shine, which is much higher than most of TCL’s contestants in the same price range. Many high-end TVs, including other mini-LED models, are usually maximized in about 2,000 nits.
Mini-LED TVs use an array of LEDs to create an exact dimming zone, and up to 5,000 local dimming zones, QM8 provides better contrast control. This high number of zones allows for more accurate backlight modulation and deep blacks.
Other advanced technologies of QM8, such as quantum dot color enhancement and dolby vision IQ, resulting in the resulting image quality, results in high opposite and vivid colors, as proven by our laboratory tests. Ultra-high-definition helps in 4K resolution, as it supports HDR10+, which produces a wide range of colors and levels of brightness compared to the standard dynamic range. As a boost on the 2023 model, QM8 comes with an advanced processor (AIPQ Pro), which takes advantage of machine learning to activate AI-clarity and AI-based enrichment such as AI-clarity and AI motion.
In the event of an off-center, however, I found the angles of the TV relatively narrow, which was reducing the quality of the picture and vice versa. This is a minor complaint, but something to consider in establishing your seating arrangements.
Also: I tested Amazon’s Mini LED Fire TV, and it competes with the more expensive Samsung and LG models.
The panel of QM8 has a sufficient amount of connection options, including four HDMI 2.1 ports, two of which support 4K 120Hz pass-thrro, FREESYNC Premium Pro and 144Hz VRR. Additionally, there are three USB ports and a 3.5 mm audio output to connect the headphones.
Other 3.5 mm port options include a composite video, stereo audio input and optical digital audio output. It has an ATSC 3.0 tuner jack (if the grid is in a collapse?), But you will mostly rely on its Wi-Fi 6 for zippy connectivity. QM8 also has an Ethernet port, which covers the bases for wired internet.
For gamers, QM8 has some attractive features. This supports the 144hz variable refresh rate at 4K resolution, which I have found very pleasant when hooking a Playstation 5 with TV. But it also has a “game Accelerator 240” feature that can make the gameplay comfortable at the price of gaming at a half -resolution 1080p in 240Hz VRR. No low, this model combined with the underlying brightness and contrast, gaming experience is secretly one of the best assets of QM8.

The onkyo-designed speaker system of QM8 is 80-watt, 2.1.2-channel configuration-2023 model, a significant improvement from the 2023 model, in which 20-watt, 2.1-channel speakers were relatively punished. The new model includes two up-firing Dolby Atomos speakers posted on the left and right edges of the frame. In addition to the Dolby Atmos and DTS Virtual: X, the X, audio quality has been certified as IMAX enhanced.
Watch the old episodes of Lost, I found QM8’s sound crisp and bold. What I appreciate the most is the auto volume control of TV, which suddenly increases decibels like explosions, especially increases pace advertisements.
ZDNET purchase advice
Going for less than $ 1,000 at the time of this writing, TCL QM8 Provides crazy value for classification of its size and features. The price of a comparable model of Sony’s choice can be doubled.
If you prefer glow, opposite and high-level gaming in any size, QM8 is a solid investment for cost. Just make sure that you can place the TV (and yourself) well, which is sufficient to achieve the best, centered viewing angle and is expected, when a help is done when rebukes the first set.
TCL QM8 is receiving an editor’s Choice Award as it examines all boxes in terms of high view, sound, gaming and AI features. Its mini-LED technique offers a super-bright screen with dynamic images and unbeatable contrast, and its Google TV interface makes it fun to use it. For less than $ 900, the quality of QM8 is the same or low -sized OLED TV rivals that are often spent twice.
