Amazon India on Monday announced the release of its Ruffas Artificial Intelligence (AI) assistant at the desktop-based web interface. The e-commerce giant said that AI-operated shopping will help assistant users to make informed decisions during the sale of Prime Day between July 12-14. In particular, Ruffas was first introduced in India in August 2024, but it was only available through Amazon’s mobile apps. This rollout expands its purpose as users can reach the chatbot when using a desktop.

The Roofas is the first platform in Amazon at the consumer-oriented AI chatboat, and was initially unveiled in February 2024. For the first few months, it was only available in the US, and later it was expanded to India on the company’s mobile apps. In particular, the feature remains in beta.
Similar to specific chatbots, users can interact with the chatbot using the natural language and ask any query related to Amazon’s e-commerce platform. The chatbot then uses Amazon’s data to detect the answer and presents it in a converted tone.
At the time of unveiling, the tech veteran had said that users can ask for product recommendations, the biggest discount on a product, as well as things to consider when shopping. Rufus also allows users to ask follow -up questions. It accepts both text and audio as input, but only the text can produce output.
On the mobile app, the users can find ruffas in the right corner, one indicated with a sparkle icon and two text bubbles – one in orange and the other in blue. Tapping the icon opens a lower sheet layout where users can either type their queries in the text box, record a voice note, or use one of the suggestions shared in the center of the interface.
