To shut down the Microsoft lens and push users to Copilot – but you have other options

Microsoft / Elyse Betters Picaro / ZDNET

    Key takeaways of zdnet

    • Microsoft lens ends the scan by 15 December, 2025, retiring in stages.
    • 365 Copilot app offers scanning but with low features.
    • Adobe Scan, Photoscan, Turboscan Solid Lens Options are options.

I often use microsoft lens on my iPhone to scan photos, business cards and documents. It is an easy and accessory app to scan physical objects. But come to December, I have to rely on a separate program for my scanning needs. This is because the Microsoft app is giving Heave-HO.

    A multi-step retirement

One in New support pageMicrosoft announced that the lens would retire on 15 September. But the real retirement will come in stages. The app will lose official support on November 15, at which time it will be removed Apple’s app store And Google play,

Nevertheless, you will still be able to make new scans. However, this capacity will be overcome on 15 December. At that point, you can continue to see and access the previous scan as long as you place the app on your device, but you will no longer be able to scan the new items.

    Options to try

We can use as an alternative to those of us who use Microsoft lenses and prefer?

There are definitely other scanning apps that you can try when the microsoft lens has gone. I get used Adobe scan, Google’s photocanAnd Turboskainto name a few. Although I still usually turn to the lens for my scanning, any other app can handle the job.

As usual, Microsoft is pointing to AI, especially Microsoft 365 Copilot App. But this is not a regular Copilot app. This is the Copilot app you usually use with Microsoft 365 account. Fortunately, the app and scanning capacity are accessible to anyone without Microsoft 365 membership.

To try this, download for Microsoft 365 Copilot App IOS Or AndroidOpen the app and tap on a three-integrated icon on the upper left. Tap make from the menu, and then choose the scan. Give the item the item you want to scan and tap on the shutter button.

On the preview screen, you are capable of rotating the scan, harvesting and otherwise tweet. You can also retake it or remove it. When done, tap on the checkmark to save the scanned image.

You can store the scan locally on your mobile device or sink them with Onedrive to access them elsewhere. You can also see the previous scan on the creature screen.

However, there are some limitations using Copilot vs. Microsoft Lens for Scanning.

With Copilot, you cannot save scans directly on Word, PowerPoint or Onnot. You are unable to save the scanned business card in Onenote. Copilot provides no alternative to read the scanned documents loudly, nor does it integrate with the immersive reader feature.

Of course, Microsoft AI sees AI as a solution for everything, so you are stuck with this option if you like to use a Microsoft product.
