Ethereum’s co-founder Vitallic Butterin has introduced a new type of digital identity system, called a “pluralistic identity”, arguing that it can protect privacy by enabling proper participation in digital life.
In a blog post Published Sunday, butterin, discovered the promises and disadvantages of zero-knowledge (ZK) proof-lipted ID, warned that even the privacy-protection system could take severe risk if they rigorously apply an identity per capita.
Ethereum (Eth) Mastermind said that many new digital ID projects use zero-knowledge evidences to prove users to prove that they have a valid ID without disclosing personal details. Examples include the World ID, which has adopted the ZK technology by increasing the initiative of 10 million users, Taiwan’s digital ID project and the European Union initiative.
“ZK-Wrapping solves many important problems,” he wrote, but warned that “ZK-wrapped ID still has risks,” especially because applying an ID per person can reduce pseudonym and can be exposed to users to force.

Single digital ID can kill pseudonym

Without this flexibility, he argued, users can find themselves in a world where “all your activity must be subject to a public identity,” by increasing the dangers from government or employer monitoring.

Buterin proposes a pluralist ID
To achieve a flexible approach, butterin proposed a pluralistic identity systems, where no authority controls the issue of identity, as “the best realistic solution”.
