After years of providing free services without a bell, WhatsApp is now starting to show advertising on the popular chat app. To be clear, users will only see advertisements on the status screen – on the stories of the app on the stories of the app.
So as you see an advertisement after seeing some stories on Instagram, after scrolling some status updates you will see advertisements on WhatsApp.
The company stated that its advertising mechanism uses the users’ countries or cities, language, and the channels such as the signs they are following, as well as data from advertisements that interact with users.
Meta stated that it is not using individually identified data, such as users’ phone numbers, messages, calls and groups to serve targeted advertisements. If a user has added its WhatsApp account to the Meta account center, the company will use its account preferences to show advertisements.

The company stated that it is allowing companies and users to promote its channels, WhatsApp broadcasting facility, Discovery section, and it would allow selected creators and businesses to take membership to unique updates on channels. The company said that these membership payments will be made smooth by the app store.
Meta said that more than 1.5 billion people use status and channels per day.
So far, WhatsApp has generated revenue through its WhatsApp business platforms and click-to-VHATSP advertisements. Meta has repeatedly mentioned them as increasing channels of revenue. This is the last something quarterly Earning call,
Ellis Newton Rex, VP of the product at WhatsApp, stated that a briefing advertisements have a suitable expansion of the revenue streams of the app.
“(New advertising and promotion products) felt like the next natural development, now both of those businesses have scales people to help in search of businesses directly within WhatsApp. And that is what we were listening to businesses that they also wanted to do,” he said.
WhatsApp said that advertisements and these features will roll globally in the coming months.
