When you are planning a trip with friends, there is a good chance that your group chat will be full of links and screenshots of places where you want to travel or you want to hit the cafe.

To help you keep an eye on all that, Google is now rolling a new feature to add Many places in Google Map list for you to use screenshotsThis feature scans your phone and uses Mithun AI to work at the locations mentioned in your screenshot. It is starting for the first time on iPhones (which is strange for Google), and it is limited to the US for now. However, Android and global release is planned for the future.

Here is how the new facility works. After updating the Google Maps app to the latest version, visit the U tab. Here, you will see a new list called screenshot.

Tap on it, and Google Maps will ask for access to your photo library. Here, you can allow full access to it to enable auto-scan facility, or you can simply choose pictures you want to scan it manually. Based on what you choose, this feature works slightly. I will start with auto-scan instructions.

If you are on automatic, just go about your life, take screenshots of places in which you are interested, as you will do normally. These may include a place name, an address, or even a picture of a place. Once you get ready to add them to your Google Maps list, reopen the Google Maps app. If the Maps app automatically recognizes a location, it will show a message that there are new places that are ready to review for you.

Tap on the review button and choose whether you want to save the image and whether Google has found in your screenshot list. Once this happens, you can also add places to a separate list.

Here is a wide video of how the facility works:

Alternatively, you can also manually add space in your Google Maps app using the screenshot list for more privacy.

What do you think so far?

You go to the tab and choose the screenshot list. Here, upload the screenshots you want to draw the list.

Now, the Google map will analyze images and will return to you with the review screen. Just pass through places that Google found, and add those you want to the screenshot list.

Should you let AI go through your screenshot?

The more useful this facility can be, the question is whether you should allow Gemini to reach all photos in your iPhone library so that a few seconds can be saved to find a place on Google Maps?

If it makes you uncomfortable, be sure to deprive Google Maps of full access to your photo library, even if you are not using a regular screenshot list feature. It is also a good practice to check your photo permissions from time to time, which you can read more here.
