Microsoft announced that, from today, individual Windows developers will no longer have to pay to publish their applications at the Microsoft Store.
The company said that developers can now submit Win32 (including .NET WPF and Winforms), UWP, PWA, .NET Maui, or electron apps to Microsoft Store without paying any registration fee.
Redmund will also handle the hosting and signature of each app, eliminating the needs of developers to pay for these services.
The company said, “Package your app as a MSIX and we will host your binary on our infrastructure and pay for delivery – there is no need to set your own CDN,” the company said. “We will also sign your app for free to promote the trust and safety, and Windows distributes updates automatically, so your users always have the latest version without any additional work.”
Developers of non-gaming applications for Windows can also apply their own in-app payment system to maintain all revenue.
To begin with, developers must sign in with their individual microsoft account and follow the newly directed onboarding user interface. However, before publishing its apps, developers will have to verify their identity by scanning an ID issued by a legitimate government and by taking a selfie.
