Why do I still take a wallet? My iPhone can handle anything about anything that you needed a traditional wallet. Most of my purchase (if not all) are made through the Apple Pay or QR code, then my phone holds all my photos, and most of my receipts go directly to my email. Originally only I keep my wallet around, this is that I take my ID. Once my kingdom begins to support Apple’s digital ID feature, however, things will change between me and my wallet – which comes anytime support.
Since iOS 15.4, Apple has allowed you to add a driver’s license or other state ID to your iPhone’s digital wallet. This does not mean that you are unnecessarily moving your ID around – states have slowed down to roll out their own support, and most have signed in so far.
When I first covered this facility in 2022, Only two states actively allow you to add your ID to your iPhoneWhile 10 more (Plus Puerto Rico) on a loose timeline of “soon”, finally confirmed the plan to offer the option. Rapidly three years ahead, and Only 9 states and one region now Officially allows you to add ID to the wallet.

Now, can be warned: When you pull you can’t hand over your iPhone to your iPhone. There are specific, limited use cases for this feature. Right now, it means to identify yourself at the airport, as well as in select businesses. Apple worked with TSA to do this, and it currently works at the following airports:

This feature will also work with the participating businesses to verify your age. This includes bar, restaurant, liquor shops, festivals, concerts and some age-related apps. That business will need to establish age verification at their end, but if yes, Apple says that you can tap your iPhone against them to draw your ID. Then, you can double-click your iPhone’s side button to confirm your ID, you want to share your ID.
How to add a digital ID to your iPhone
If you live in a supported position, the installation of convenience is simple. Open the wallet, then, tap on the top right (+), then choose the “driver’s license and ID card”. Choose your kingdom, then choose whether add the ID to your iPhone 8 or new, as well as your Apple Watch Series 4 or new. In any way, you have to scan your ID with your iPhone camera, then scan your face to prove your identity. Once completed, send all information to your state to confirm.

The next time you fly from a participating airport, you can unlock your iPhone and place it next to the ID scanner. You will see your digital ID, if you share with TSA with approval (name, date of birth, sex, ID number, state, issue and termination date, real ID position and ID photo), you will complete all the information.
