“I’m a very fearless person intellectually, and I have to say, when I hire young people, I look for that because I think that’s a very important quality to have,” she said on the podcast. “You almost have to give yourself permission to be fearless and be courageous.”
She offered the example of how, early in her career, she was close to receiving tenure as a professor at Princeton University. However, in 2009, she decided to make the jump from Princeton to Stanford University and restart her tenure clock because she was attracted to the Silicon Valley ecosystem. Lee has been working at Stanford for more than 16 years now.
“I didn’t spend a lot of time thinking about all the failure cases,” Lee said on the podcast. “I don’t think too much.”
