Remember this? 10 devices your smartphone is replaced forever

A device, your smartphone, has gradually captured the jobs of so many other equipment. It is so versatile that you probably do not require any device categories that have been replaced by it.

    10

    Point-end-shoot camera

For many people, point-end cameras were the first taste of digital photography. Now, your phone does all this-and with computational photography and AI-managed editing, it certainly improves for the average person.

The real twist point was the convenience. The smartphone offered a camera that was always with you, which did not require a memory card or battery. Even though the early phone cameras were even a slight point-and-shooting compared to the laughter, they eventually reached a point where the quality of the image became “quite good” for Instagram, Facebook or a quick family album.

And once that limit was crossed, most people stopped looking at the need to carry another device for photos, especially when the phone can also read, scroll, stream, and about everything else.

Does I hold me from the guard, although (perhaps you have seen it too), how the point-ends are slowly coming back to the scene. A stunning number of people, especially young people, are ready for the simplicity of a camera that only takes photos. And I get it: it is freshly distraught-free-you, camera, and your front moment.

    9

    Pocket calculator

I still remember my old TI-35 calculator. It was compact and scientific and at that time, I felt that I could solve anything from nuclear equations. At school, it was a badge of preparations, and a little green LED screen felt impossible.

But these days, the same functionality is inside your smartphone with a calculator app, with a whole scientific suit, granting tool and even symbolic mathematics solvers. The irony is that the calculators were once disruptive, replacing the slide rules and entered a new wave of accessible mathematics. But now they are interrupted in return.

Calculators are still alive in classes, it is that the phone is banned during the examination. Otherwise, I do not see someone moving around a standalone calculator when their phone can do the same mathematics – and then something.

    8

    GPS Equipment

The GPS devices dedicated like the people of Garmin and Tomatom were groundbreaking in their time, offering a sleek option for folding paper maps. But the smartphone has again defined again which has seen navigation.

Google maps and its options such as navigation apps provide more than turn-by-turn directions. They syncing with a calendar for live traffic updates, smart rirouts and even your contacts and seamless trip planning. To not mention that with the underlying search equipment, your phone doubles as a local guide, which helps you find gas stations, restaurants and attractions.

While there is still a place for high-end GPS gear among truck drivers, sailors and courageous people, which require hyper-specific features, for most of us, the smartphone has won. And it is not even a fair fight.

    7

    mp3 players

I can still remember the pride holding my first MP3 player. It was a chunky creative Zen with a small screen and just had enough space for a few dozen songs. I loaded it everything from high school heartbreak songs to strange B-side discoveries, I was sure no one else knew.

However, once smartphones arrived with music streaming apps such as Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube Music, the idea of “ownership of Mp3s” began to become a bit bizarre; Perhaps also unnecessary. Access quickly changed ownership. Even when we store (download) music, the MP3 is not always a format of choice. AAC, FLAC, and other high-defense or defective forms have offered better quality and compression.

    6

    alarm clocks

A digital alarm on the nightstand had some strange rest about the soft red glow of the clock. I grew up with one, with physical buttons that you had to press with real commitment, and a snooze bar that felt like a lifeline on the school morning.

But once the smartphones entered the bedroom, the alarm watches quietly pushed to one side. Now, your phone acts as an alarm clock, sleep tracker, white noise machine and nightstand entertainment system, which is all rolled into one. You can set several alarms, customize snooze gaps, choose from hundreds of wake-up sounds, and your phone automatically updates for the daylight saving time of the day. It is difficult to argue with that level of convenience.

Nevertheless, not everyone is a fan. Sleep researchers and wellness enthusiasts have a point when they suggest removing your phone completely from the bedroom. A basic alarm clock does not entice you to scroll through social media at midnight or to check the work email before you open your eyes completely.

    5

    Flashlight

For most people, the LED flash of the smartphone has quietly replaced the traditional flashlight. It is difficult to defeat the convenience of being a light source that is always in your pocket, ready to help you find your keys, suddenly to deal with blackouts, or co -workers under the couch without scrabbing for a separate device.

However, this is one of the rare cases where the real-sad equipment still wins. A dedicated flashlight shows the method of greater glow, provides better beam control, and lasts longer on a charge (or good ol ‘battery). It is also designed to take a beating, which matters under a car, out of the forest, or when ready for an emergency. There is also a big practical idea: if going to take a tumble on some concrete, it should be $ 30 pocket light instead of your $ 1,000 phones.

    4

    voice recorder

There was a time when a pocket-shaped digital voice recorder should have been for students, journalists, or any fleeting songs or any person who pursued the idea. It was straight: Just press the record, speak your mind, and you are doing it.

These days, however, I don’t think twice, when I need to reduce podcast ideas, catch a random conversation, or save a passing idea. I just open a voice memo app. Thanks to the cool magic of better underlying mix and reduction in AI noise, the sound is often cleaner than to handle those old recorders. And I can edit or share the file without switching the application.

    It was not even close.

Many apps now go far beyond simple recording. You get various file format options, timestamps, labels and uninterrupted integration with a note -taking tools and cloud storage. Everything is organized, searchable and available in immediate equipment. It is difficult to imagine going back.

    3

    Scanner

I used to groan to think about scanning something because it meant that a climk flatbed scanner, launching dull software, and crossing my fingers that the image would not be crooked or granular – all of this to digitize a receipt or save a signed form.

Now, your smartphone can scan documents and make them look good. Scanner apps such as Adobe Scan, Microsoft Lens, Camscanner, or even underlying notes apps can scan images in PDF in seconds and can increase and convert images in PDF. Quality is often faster and more balanced that I used to get from a traditional scanner.

Of course, the standalone scanners still hold their place in high-length or archival settings. But for everyday use, a phone is more than enough.

    2

    Individual digital assistant

Do you remember the Palm Pilot, with its stylus and a granscale screen? It could not call or take photos, but it could manage your calendar, make the notes down, contact, and even play topical pixels of solitaires.

    Old PDA Tip

According to today’s standards, they seem primitive PDA primitive, but they laid the foundation of the smartphones that we now trust daily. Every swipe, tap, or “heei ciri” detects those early proto-smartphones (in a way). They have gone so that the smartphones we have now can sprink-and we have been in a full-marathon since then.

    1

    E-reading equipment

This category calls for more nuances because e-readers dedicated to the kindle have not disappeared. In fact, they have held their own. However, the smartphone has changed the basic e-reader functionality for many casual readers. The ability to read books, magazines and articles on your phone, especially with the best ebook reader apps and various news apps, has created for more accessible and integrated reading in daily life.

    Andy Cormier / Maxoff

He said, something is special about a dedicated e-reader. E-ink screens mimic the form of real paper, which makes long-term reading sessions easier. They live on the same charge for weeks, do great work in direct sunlight, and will not bomb you with ping, advertisements or wooing distractions. When you really want to drown in a book, a dedicated e-reader is still a more focused, concentrated method to do it.

The smartphone again shaped our relationship with technology instead of changing individual devices. What is used for the requirement of a single-purpose gadgets is now controlled by an all-in-one device that fits into your pocket. It is very good in many ways, although it also gives some pity for the past.
